Hi all, just got the finance sorted for my new car. I'm making the change from a TVR to a WRX STi and am massively shocked by the insurance costs!

Currently I am paying about £500 for a 4.3 Ltr Chimaera and previously paid about £600 for a SEAT LCR. Why then am I being quoted over a grand for the Scooby? I have 9 years no claims and am 26. Is there some sort of Subaru premium I should be aware of or particular insurers I should try? Or am I just going to have to suck it up?

Cheers guys, looking forward to getting to know you all more in the near future.

Mooooooo.

Impreza insurance is just plain silly Specially for anything called STi.
My Griff insurance is just over half of the RA insurance.

The usual excuse is that there's loads of fault claims involving Imprezas. I was once told that I need to be over 28 to get a good quote...

I had a quote for a Subaru last year, it was only about £600 with Elephant. I am a couple of years older than you, but it was only about £40 more than my modified R5GTT, I ended up with a Fiat Coupe 2.0 Turbo which ended up about £50 less, I say me but the car is for the missus it is just insured in my name

I used to have a Griff500 and a Scooby, the Impreza was 50% higher than the Griff. I think it boils down to the fact that a large part of premium goes on the theft element, Scoobies get nicked, TVRs don't, so you pay more with an Impreza, simple really!
