I just stumbled across the above when browsing through the classifieds recently, I never knew they existed. It sounds like a right hoot - anybody have any experience of one?

Greetings from NZ, land of the obscure JDM import...

may be the same supercharged engine from the MR2 Mk1. 145 bhp I think. Could be amusing. be nice to know if it was rwd, or not. If it was rwd, It could well be worth a shot. Would be fun methinks!

is that an AE92 or AE101 Corrolla? FWD if it is. Seen a few of them around here in Melbourne, but don't know that much about them.

4A-GZE 20v apparently, and around 1000kg .... but FWD.

All 4a-gze supercharged engines were 16v - the later ones produced 165bhp (Toyota figures) but really more like 155. The 4a-ge 20v produced (according to Toyota) 160bhp but was really more like 140. Though the 20v did have individual throttle bodies and revved to 8,500rpm. The engine in this AE101 FWD Levin GTZ is a 4a-GZE just like the one transplanted into my Corolla

Drifting, and ineptitude are not one and the same thing!

for some reason I thought the 4AG-ZE in the Levin had more power than in the early MR2, 200bhp or so? not sure though, I remember the 20v 4A-GE being quoted as 118 kw (160 bhp) but have heard they generally dyno around 100kw (140 bhp) so there may be a bit of 'stretching' going on in some of the official power quotes.

there are a few pretty quick twincharged Corolla Levins around though, the motor seems to have some potential.

still wrong wheel drive though

just found some stats on this model ('93 Corolla Levin GT-Z AE101):

1150 kg, 125kw (~170bhp) @ 6400rpm, 206 Nm (152 lb-ft) @ 4400rpm

not sure if these are official factory stats or actual real-world stats though.

The 4A-GZE that's now in my Corolla came from a japanese domestic market AE101 Levin GT-Z. And even with a big pulley on the crankshaft driving the charger faster (making 12psi boost - 8psi stock) and the air bypass valve blanked off it only made 155bhp. These engines have an ECU programme that causes the ignition timing to be backed off at 5,500rpm if there is more than 10psi boost. I tried a Unichip to get rid of it but that didn't work and also an HKS FCON SZ but no joy. My engine has distributorless ignition and the ignitor has a feedback circuit to the ECU so no matter what you do to try to control the timing the ECU just changes it back again and the only way to overcome the problem is to get a standalone ECU. Now with a MoTeC M4 wired in, the engine 198 bhp @ 7236 rpm and maximum torque is 177 lbft. @ 4147 rpm. The SC12 charger is about at it's limit now and to squeeze any more out of it will take a turbo conversion.
