The new Subaru Legacy GT Spec B is powered by a 276-hp single twin-scroll turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter flat-four. No, it's not yet sold in America, but we hear it will be in 2005.
Though according to NASIOC a limited run of 500 numbered 2.5's will be sold in the USA in 2006.See here
A lot of the tuners are using 2.5ltr tweaked Forester engines. So not to miss a trick Subaru decided to they might as well get a slice of their own action.

Do you not get a 2.0 turbo Legacy over there? I never realised, have to feel a bit sorry for you now!
We've been getting them here (NZ) since, oh about 1989. '89-93 are single turbo, '94-97 and '98-2002 are twin-turbo, and from 2003 onwards they went back to single turbo again.
excellent cars all round, even if a bit thirsty. I tested '91 and '95 Turbos but due to insurance cost and fuel consumption etc settled on a '97 2.0 na Wagon for now, and decided that if I go the turbo-nutter route at some stage I'd have to go the whole hog and go for an STi-RA Impreza.
2.0 turbo Legacies will knock out 0-60 in around 6.5 sec generally, so still a tad slower than a WRX but significantly more refined at the same time.

The Americans have also had a 'GT' model Legacy with the 2.0 turbo engine, I've always wondered why Subaru UK didn't import a similar models as there must be several ex-Impreza boys (like myself) who would have considered buying one.
You can get them over here too
There is also the Jap spec B of the new legacy with the twin scroll turbo off the spec c impreza and 2 litres, 27K on import, well worth it

The only 'official' turbo Legacies have been the mk1s haven't they? The line got dropped when sales of Impreza turbos took off in the mid-nineties.
Like I said, I'm sure there is a market for a larger performance estate/saloon than the Impreza.
Correct, but you don't have to buy official
The compromise would be to get an Impreza wagon and have less space and an image, or get a 3.0L Legacy with adequate space, adequate performance and no image (not a negative point for me!). A Legacy with explosive performance would suit me to the ground. I guess I am a hooligan but don't want to advertise the fact.
If this car is being sold elsewhere, Subaru must be aware there would be a demand in this country too!
