My S2K hits a sort of flat spot when accelerating hard up to 9000rpm. It doesn't happen every time, but there's sometimes a definite loss of acceleration when it hits 7k. Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it be the spark plugs getting old or something more sinister?

Oil level, or oil temp.

The engine will not rev above 6500rpm until the oil pressure (derived from oil temp), is available to let the push the pin out and allow the longer cam lobes to create VTEC.

You need a slap on the wrists if you're trying to hit VTEC within the first 5 miles of a journey. If it's not when cold, then make sure your oil isn't too low or too high. It should always sit right on the maximum, but never above.

No, it's not that. Oil level is fine.

I obviously *never* rev the car hard until the oil has fully warmed up! It can't be the limiter you describe because it's not a complete loss of power, it's just a dip and it pushes through and will still get to 9000rpm.

Check your air filter is nice and clean, and there's nothing stuck in your airbox. Also check the plugs/leads are ok. Most likely to be the leads.

This was posted on the S2KI forum a few months ago. Try a search at www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=25

I had a quick look at the Tech FAQ and it mentions low oil, low temp and the map sensor.

Won't be oil as the car wouldn't VTEC. Won't be temp as the S2000's have an intelligent limiter.

Leads is likely. Intake is worth opening up and looking at. Beyond that...?!?

For the record, the valve clearances needed adjusting. Fixed now!

I thought you had to wait until 2000004444999999990 rpm before you got any power?

Glad the clearances sorted it was it tight or slack?
