A super rare Toyota Soarer GZ20 with the 2.0 1G-GTE Twin Turbo manual

Though in lots of bits as we speak, strip down diet mode plus a cage, suspension, diff etc going in. 1450kg's!!! normally, target weight is 1100-1200kg,s and I'm more than half way there already.

Should be fun when its finsihed

When it's finished it should look like this

She's a six pot, 210 bhp as standard, tweakable to a reliable 280bhp on the standard weeny turbo's. Sounds like a jet turbine

Well actually sounds more like a tornado on reheat as the exhaust is off at the moment

This is whats lurking under the bonnet

Oh, I thought mk3 Supes only came in 2.5TT, 3.0 and 3.0T.

Every day's a schoolday!

Yep thats correct there is a MKIII Supra with the same engine, theres one on Ebay this week a white one. Very rare indeed. (though the 2.5TT is the daddy)

I've got a feeling there's a 2.0 NA Mk3 too, probably quite slow though!

I'm keeping my eyes open for a 2.5TT, looking more like I'll have to import one though as they don't come up for sale very often over here.

Your Soarer looks like it should be fun, I lurk over on MKIIISupras and the weight of the stuff you've chucked away is incredible... Must be built like a tank

Ah the old 1G-GTE, one of the cheapest import engines you can buy in Australia, people put them in old 1970s Celicas usually, like this one.

Incidently it's the same engine (well updated a bit of course and minus turbos) as used in the Lexus IS200 as the 1G-FE. The 1G series is also found in the Toyota Chaser in twin turbo form and also the Toyota Crown, sometimes in supercharged form (maybe turbo as well) as the 1G-GZE.

I think they had a water to air intercooler as an option on some models. Generally they are a more reliable engine than the 7MGTE, which tends to eat head gaskets.

cpt sideways or anyone who knows,

i am playing with the idea of getting an old impreza WRX and turning it into a drift car by disconnecting the front propshaft and then doing all the usual to it, i reckon it would be good fun!!!

what are the rules of D1 about cars that are not originally RWD?

do you think it is a good idea? has it been done before?

Yep thats allowed & yes it's been done before. One of the jap tuning co's does a conversion for the centre diff to make it work properly. Quite effective after some steering lock mods. Theres a chap with a silver grey one whos a regular at the events.
