Ok guys, the new MX5 has Dunlop somethings on the alloys. Plenty of life left, and they seem ok for just pottering about. Traction is better than I expected. An ok tyre - no better but no worse.

I have 14inch steels as well as the alloys - give me a recommendation of a 'performance' tyre to stick on. I'm familiar with the Yoko A032R but I'm interested in your views.

If anyone wants to recommend a replacement for the Dunlops (once they're worn down a bit) that'd be appreciated too.

Cheers

Go to My Tyres for the best prices.

Goodyear Eagles GSD2
Toyo T1S's
Toyo T1R's
Falken Azensis ZE512

They tend to be the best bet for your car.

Other MX5 owners have experimented with other brands, but these ones always come up the most on MX5 Owners Clubs threads as the best tyre for all round grip and performance.

Im running Toyo T1R's on my 15 inch alloys and Im very happy with them.

Thoroughly recommend the GY F1's GSD3 , very good traction.

I'm going to put GSD3s onto my Elise and hae experience with them on other cars - I rate them. Just wondered if there was anything specific for the MX5 but I'm happy to put Goodyears on. I've had Proxes before and didn't really like them.

Thanks guys

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is absolutely spot on for the MX-5. In this country we need something that works in the cold and wet and continues to work in the Summer (remember that?). I was very surprised how good the F1 GS-D3 was when I fitted them (in 195/50R15) on my late Mk.1

I've now got a 3rd generation limited, with the 17" LE wheels which come with Mich Preceda 205/45R17, but I'm looking to switch them for 215/45R17 Goodyears at some point soon and swallow the increase in rolling radius. So you could say I rate them on these cars
