.....Im pretty sure its a terrible idea.

From what i've heard (this could all be hear say, with a little bit of piffle thrown in) they dont handle very well, are heavy, complicated and horrendously expensive to fix when they break (which is often)!

Is this really the case or am I drastically misinformed?

I know RobGTO's seems to be reliable - anyone got any experiences?

What should he be hoping to pay for a decent twin turbo?

Cheers chatters

twin turbo's reach 3.5 for a h-m plate
every electric goes wrong if its a bad one, and is stupidly expensive to fix, N/a auto's go for pennies...
they handle (from my little test drive) reasonably well, just alittle disconnected, they are heavy as they are massive and as all high spec Jap cars, are complicated.
however they are silly fast and a manual TT almost tempted me
Teins or D2's would be a must though
Rob will help me put my foot in my mouth in a minute..

Surely a (decent) MRT is a better car though?

IMHO if you can find one with a dash which doesn't look like a christmas tree then yes

That's about my experience of them, yes. Bloody fast when both blowers are spooled up though.

{edited to add I've just realised it's for a friend but the advice still stands!)

I have a UK 1999 Mk2 3000GT TT and love it to bits, there are faster cars, there are better looking cars, there are better handling cars and there are more advanced cars but the 3000GT has enough of all four in one package to be the one for me. Depending on how much you want to spend there are some very good ones especially on GTOUK (the owners club). Pick one up that's been looked after and you'll be fine, don't do your research or go for one on the cheap and you'll regret it. If you decide to buy one get on the owners club, there is a list of experienced owners who'll go with you to look at the motor and advise you on what to look for.

Undooubtedly people have horror stories and they are usually the ones who've got one on the cheap expecting it to be fine - abused ones can be a nightmare.

So far mines been rock solid and no more expensive than any other car I've had. Might not be able to say that once I've started trying to get more power out of it. There are a few pushing 500-600BHP on the owners club but I'll settle for around 400BHP hopefully.

If your anywhere near Preston let me know and I'll take you out in mine.

Depends how you define "better" really. I'd imagine you'd have to work the MR2 very hard to keep up with one- once over the ton I reckon he would gobble you up.

No doubt, especially as I've still got the speed castrator (tm) on. But we all know, the top end doesnt maketh the car!

It's horses for courses really - MR2T is a lot better handling and very powerful but to be honest although mine is fast I tend to enjoy just crusing in it! Such a nice car for loafing around in...

Sad to say it but I've got to the age were I need my creature comforts as well as the performance.
