As I'm going to be buying a house in a few months I'm gonna have to put my RX-7 RSR up for sale soon. Problem is that there are very few late-model Rex's to compare prices so I'm not sure what to put it up for. There are only 2 RSR's in the UK, the other one coincidentally is up for sale at £12000 though it's had £50k of mods(!).

So what's it worth? It's a totally standard, unmolested '97 model in lovely condition. Just had a brand new exhaust, front disks and pads. Negatives? It has 55k on the clock, and in January someone hit the back (damage was very light though). I know I'm biased, but it's one of the nicest Rex's I've ever seen, but then I guess I would say that...

So, what's it worth?

Yeah, traditionally Winter's a bad time to sell, fortunately I'm not in a mad rush so can wait for the right person to come along, just don't want to price myself out of the market.

And that would be stupid-fast at that. I'll get mine mapped mid-march (getting it back next week!!!!!!!), as it was 350hp (293rwhp) previously it should be pushing on for 400 (350rwhp).

Steve - don;t let it go; if you stop eating/drinking for a while you'll be able to buy the house and keep the rex. Ask yourself this: do you really need a house???

Appreciate the sentiments but I've had her for two years and I'm ready to move on. It's getting replaced by my girlfriend's MX-5 which is also a great car, though of course I'll miss the power of the Rex

Aye RSR, 1 of 500 made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the rotary. Came with Bilsteins, anthracite alloys (though Mazda UK changed mine over for silver ones when they imported it in '99) and special dials. They also came standard with the big brake kit, the RZ dif ratio.

Yeah yeah, ive just displayed the usual inability to read the post before butting in!

I would have put it up for more than £12k

I had a 99 model that I bought 2 years ago which cost me £21k, the new owner was the insurance company as I had a slight circular moment due to diesel on a roundabout.

It does look rather nice, but just a bad time of year to sell. There seem to be a lot more models available at the moment, I can only assume due to the increase in fuel costs?

Shame you are having to sell her, but good luck

Is it me, or is there nobody driving the car in that first MOTION-shot !?!?!?

lovely car.. and I'd buy it if I could afford to feed it's thirst..
(have resigned myself to not being able to afford a rex, and when I can afford to fuel one, I'll probably have enough money to buy a VX Turbo/964/NSX etc)

Well spotted!! Yeah it's been photoshopped to look like it's moving, forgot there's nobody driving when I did it though!

The cars you mentioned do have a much higher initial outlay though, and 18-20mpg isn't that hard on the pocket.

To the right person it's worth over £10k. Possibly well over.

But 'rex's are notoriously difficult to shift - you may wait ages for someone who appreciates what it is and what it's worth, so part of it's the cost-of-capital to you.

The other point of course is when were the rotor-tips last done? If you haven't got a recent bill for them then most buyers are going to knock £3k off the asking price, just because of the risk - they don't know how you've driven it! (Hence the 'possibly' above)

If you've the time then put it up high and wait, I'd say.
