Anybody had one of these? Fensport are quoting about £1500 for it.

I'm assuming though that uprated suspension and shocks will be a good idea as mines a MKII Rev 1 ( tail happy ) and I could drop it a couple of inches, also I'm thiking that the 14" alloys might need replacing with 15" wheels and some low profile tyres.

What do you lot think?

I like the car, I know the car, so I'd rather keep what I have than sell it and buy an unfamiliar tubby.

never heard bad things about fensport. I'd go for it if you have the cash! the tubby is another level and a half from the NA! get some good suspension, and nice brake pads, and fluid, and you should be good!

Cheers guys. I'm going to have to get saving my pennies as I was on the Fensport site and noticed some rather nice exhausts too.

So I'm looking at new exhaust, new engine, new springs/shocks, new alloys.

But on the other hand I've looked at getting a Chimaera or even a Cerbie....both of which will be a more expensive move...and neither of which I have as much confidence in as a tubby, speaking to Cerbie owners who are recommending I budget at least £3000 p.a just to run a Cerbie......makes me think that sticking with my MR2 in the way forward.

what BHP are they quoting. There are numerous advantages to the factory turbos, I wouldn't discount it as it would cost much more than swapping to get to the same standard.

I personally would sell the N/A and use the extra £1500 to go toward buying a turbo. Mainly for insurance and re-sale point of view, but also it could potentially be a lot less hassle (I say potentially, as there is one MK2 tubby owner on here that wouldn't agree to that

I must say one thing that I am reluctant to give up in considering a move from MR2 to a Chim is reliability. The MR2 I bought on 55k has never given me a day of trouble and is on 166k now. They seem indestructible.

I haven't tried a Chim yet, but have been told that the handling is heavier.

Performance wise it would be interesting to set a 250bhp (300 with mods?) MR2 turbo against a Chim on a road to see how they square up.

Re selling mine for £1500 and buying a turbo, well the thing is the chassis is sound on mine, I've had the front calipers replaced a while back and the clutch in pretty new. Also if I went for an engine refit I know that provided it's garaged (which it will be) I'll have years of trouble free hooning ahead of me.

Btw in your experience what's the top end of a turbo MR2 on the road/track?

Speak to Rogue Systems or 3S Services as well Rogue have been doing conversions (engine swaps) and other specialist MR2 services for years and really know what they are on about. They are also now heavily involved the the MR2 race series and are competing and prepped track cars for it. 3S has been running for a little over a year doing similar, but in the south. Not involved in the racing though.

I am assuming Fensports price of £1500.00 is labour only - you would then also need to out-source an engine or get one of theirs for some extra wedge?

Turbo conversions are not worth it, you are better off just buying a turbo to begin with, much less hassle.
