The temptation of getting a new car when I finish this Summer is getting too great!

Really fancy an MR2 NA T-Bar but whats the difference between all the revisions?

Is there only 3 revisions? Or more? The only difference between the '94 cars (rev 3??) and the later ones that I can see is a different rear spoiler and alloys.

I've been quoted £719 by Bell for a NA T-Bar worth about £5k on a R plate is that good? (23, 4 yrs NCD, 3 points (02/02), with my Dad as a named driver).

Thanks,

Phill

PS. Gaz if all goes well and I get the funds sorted do you mind coming with me to view any cars I go to look at? I'll even buy you lunch!

5 Revisions in total,

Rev 1s had 14" wheels, some very early cars had the 3SFE engine (120ish bhp) instead of the 3SGE(150 something).
Rev 2s went to 15" wheels, no more 3SFE, suspension mods to make it a bit less tail happy.
Rev 3s had a power hike to 170odd (I think), are reportedly heavier for some reason, have different rear lights and spoilers. Possibly more suspension changes here too.

Not so sure about Rev 4s or 5s, I think there is another different spoiler for the Rev 5 and some very late cars have the BEAMS engine (more powerful, not sure how much though)

There's a full guide to the differences here - http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?s=& but that site is REALLY slow at the moment for some reason.

Rev3's are heavier than 2's because of better crash protection (like thicker door bars). Rev4's have beefier heads iirc.

Still going to be more fun the Golf! lol

Get a turbo btw.

Won't the insurance be stupidly high for me?

Probably be an older car with higher mileage as well?

Hopefully have about £5k to spend (£4k loan + selling my car)

Yeah bugger to keep clean though lol

Might try some insurance quotes on Friday for the Turbo. If its about £800 i'll seriously consider it.

Need to work out whether or not its better to keep the Golf for day to day driving (insurance is £350 FC for a 10k policy) and the MR2 for evenings/fun

Sounds sad I know, but leather and a t-bar come before a turbo! (Awaits to be shot down in flames)

Funnily enough I was going to post today about getting a Fensport turbo conversion done to my NA T-bar.

So fairly obviously IMO......get a Tubby Turbo

Hi ive got an N/a rev 3 only due to insurance being mega on a turbo at 19!! If you can get insurance i would suggest a turbo but be very careful if u have never driven a mid engined rwd car before i am constantly hearing of mr2 turbo's being witten off in the first few weeks due to the driver driving it the same as he would a fwd.

Rev1 - 14" alloys, 3sge 158hp, 3sfe 120 bhp
Rev2 - 15" alloys, upgraded suspension, 3sge 158bhp
Rev3 - Round rear lights, new spoiler, more supension tweeks 3sge 175bhp
Rev4 - Clear indicators, 3sge 168bhp (due to emmisions)
Rev5 - New 15" alloys, Big rear spoiler, 3sge 168bhp

Those are most of the changes on the uk spec mr2 for more info go to mr2oc.co.uk very friendly club ive got the same username on there so giv me a shout if u want!

I've previously done an 8hr RideDrive course in a FWD car, so i'm planning to do a 4hr "Refresher" course with them if and when I get a 2.

Cheapest price so far is £709 FC or £809 (If i protect my NCD) on a na. Don't really fancy paying more than that though.

How much are you paying at 19. If you don't mind me asking that is?

I paid £1200 f/c I think at 22, then it hovered around £1000 at 23 and 24 (didn't go down because of the mods). Supe was 950ish at 25.

Ouch! I've never paid that much for insurance (cheap cars though!)
