Well, not often I venture in here, but here's the thing....

Thinking ahead to my next project, which is to replace my race car with something, I'm going to start competing in drift comps.

With this in mind, the drift car of choice (well, for a n00b like me at least) seems to be a 200SX S14.

I really love the look of these cars and would look to modify it for drift use. Keeping it road legal is essential, but it doesn't have to have any creature comforts other than that, as the only road use will be to get it to and from the track. I have a trailer, but it's more convenient if I can drive there.

Anyway, what sort of things should I be looking for? I'm torn between buying something that someone's already modded (but do you really know what your getting and will it be worse than a 'stocker') which could save a bundle, or buying a stock example and tuning it myself which is the route I've always taken (well, actually I usually build the whole thing).

Suggestions welcome.....?

I didn't have the funds for an S14 which is why I went for the S13, but I still think I would have had I had the money for the S14

As for whether to buy modded or not, it all depends on the car.

If you look at one thats "drift look" but never actually been competitively drifted, chances are its spent its life going aroung Tesco's roundabouts at 7krpm at 25mph on cheap oil and cheap tyres. ie Walk away, or haggle like mad.

If you buy one off driftworks, that has actually been drifted, and when you go to look at the car, the owner has a garage full of spares, then that would be the best buy.

But if you are in doubt, go with a stocker, and do it all yourself.

Good websites for info

Hope this is of some help

It can be better to get the opinion of non owners sometimes, and I would say that this is one of those times.
