Toyota for Silverstone Performance
TVR specialist gains Toyota Motorsport franchise
Independent TVR specialist Silverstone Performance has added another valuable string to its bow with news that it's been appointed as an official Toyota Motorsport dealer.
The company is seeking to make a name for itself in the world of tuning and upgrades, drawing on its workforce's experience with both TVRs and Toyotas.
The net result is that you're like to see hot MR2's and Supras alongside Tamoras and Cerberas.
Toyota Motorsport tuning parts and accessories (branded TTE) can be fitted to Toyota and Lexus cars and are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The TTE range includes turbochargers and superchargers for selected models, suspension, body styling, sports exhausts and wheel/tyre upgrades. Silverstone Performance will first be focusing on the Toyota MR2 with a staged conversion process that includes turbo-charging.
SP director Matt Lee: "The MR2 is an excellent basis for a useable performance car. To give an indication of what we can offer, the new MR2 TTE turbo kit lifts the torque output of the MR2 to 255Nm.
"That's more than a VX220 Turbo and the Lotus Exige 240R - and close to a 3.2 litre Porsche Boxster (270Nm). The MR2 is about 300kg lighter than the Boxster so the torque-to weight is actually close to a Boxster S!
"Our appointment as a Toyota Motorsport dealer enables us to provide performance upgrades within the terms of the Toyota warranty and on that basis, upgrades add value to the cars to which they are applied."
Silverstone Performance is based - not surprisingly - in a motorsport-style workshop at the Silverstone Circuit making it a useful location for pre- and post-trackday 'pit stops'. In addition to standard manufacturers' servicing schedules for Toyota and TVR cars, SP provides motorsport setup and trackday preparation services.

Most original VXT's push out 267nm..... A Stage II VXT (full exhaust and remap) which are slight modifications push out 333nm!!
the 2 is a 1.8 designed as N/A.
According to their tests, the 1zz engine lasted more than the 100hours on full load with the kit on.
I seriously thinking of taking my mk3 down there for the mod, i'll be happy if i can get it to somewhere as quick as my ctr was. Don't need rocket performance but 40 or so ponies would be nice on it

This was based on the manufacturers figure for the VXT of 184 lb ft, vs the MR2 TTE Turbo at 188 lb ft, so we're only talking 4 lb ft of torque here, but pretty impressive nontheless.
Might make VX owners think twice the next they see an MR2 Roadster come up behind them...

Do they provide courtesy cars while servicing the Toyota's? Would I get a bum basic Yaris or a T350C? Are they clued up on the Supras btw?

Not yet I'm afraid, but we would be intrested to look at these and other Toyota's that need specialist attention.

I doubt VX owners have anything to worry about as most MR2's will have some mobile hairdressers equipment on the passenger seat so they wont be able to drive very fast.....

The MR2 TTE Turbo might IMHO attract a different kind of customer. I saw SP's car last weekend on its standard wheels etc. and it's a great little wolf in sheep's clothing. Nice to drive too. The Turbo conversion is all about the torque and the subtle wastegate chirp is entertaining.
