Hi there guys i have had my heart set on an evo 7 or 8 forever and a day i thought it was the only car for me until i saw the s2000 now im swaying towards that ! can any owners or people with info add to what i put ( practicality is not required )

Evo pros

4wd sensational handling
Good stock power 300 odd bhp
Easy to get power gains
Reliable

Cons

4500 mile service intervals
Image ( uncle had his robbed at gunpoint )
Thirsty
Insurance costs
Overall running costs

S2000 pros

FR lay out
Its a Honda
Its got no gubbins like Traction Control
Its more sports car
Cheaper overall running costs
Cheaper insurance

Cons

Have to scream the nads off it to get a move on
Tuning work will not yield gains as high as a turbo engine
Its a Honda but i think 90% of jap cars have no soul
The one i can afford will me the Mk1 is the Mk2 vastly better ?

cheers i wish the search funtion was working !!

If it's any help, your list of cons for the S2000 were a lot more minor than those for the Evo.

Servicing every 4,500 miles isn't funny

S2000 - add "posing with the roof down" to your pros, and it's an easy winner.

V8 a MX5 it's faster, better handling & cheaper and still a two seat sportscar like most people want.

It's low RPM Grunt, with No Turbo or Supercharger required will drop an EVO off the corners like a bad habit.

The NSX has a soul, as much as a car can have that is.

Don't think I could agree with that. Granted the MX5 is a fantastic car, but have you driven an EVO? Nothing, and I do mean nothing short of an F1 car, could lose it on corners.

Get the S2000, it will provide you with so much more fun and its looks much better. Just having the roof down on a sunny day is such a good feeling . As for screaming the nuts off it, I dont like reving cars hard but it didnt take a lot to get used to owning one, when it hits that magical 6k the engine just sounds and performs magically.

I miss mine greatly and the reason I sold it was I didnt use it enough in the winter, something that would not stop the Evo. Alternatively you just drive the S2000 carefully in the wet .

At least its gone to a good home! I'm still looking after it Dan!

I had a similar dilemma. Reason I didnt go for the Evo was the service intervals, potential for more going wrong and the dated interior of the V's and VI's (prefer the external look over the VII's). Also I thought it may attract too much of the wrong type of attention. The S2000 ticked more of my boxes and threw in a soft top and stunning looks to add!

Not sure about buying a hard top and leaving it on - whats the point?? what are you gonna gain?

In that case - why not chuck a bit more cash towards it and get an MCoupe?

A very good mate of mine has just bought an S2000 and he loves it, I love 'em, the engine's a supreme sreamer and for balls out hooning it is undeniably fabulous.

Most people who slate the EVOs have rarely driven one in even a mild temper but they are an on-road revelation.

Micthy's for me.
