Money saver!!!! (for toyota and others)
Discussion
Ok heres the situation.
The four is currently in the garage while i replace the water pump.
At the same time i removed the cambelt tensioner idlers and a quick spin up later confirmed what i already suspected; that theyre knackered and ready to dump 16 valves into 4 pistons.
A quick call to Toyotas local main stealer had my wallets sphincter clenching as according to their parts dept, idler 1 on the tensioner itself comes in at £79 plus the vat.
Idler 2 comes in at £39 plus vat despite being of almost identical construction.
The reason for the price differential could not be ascertained, so after i regained my breath i used that oft said line " Ill get back to you..."....yeah when hell freezes over you highwaymen.
Idler 1 was covered in globby oil and so was cleaned up to reveal a part number!
Idler 2 was also covered in globby oil, was cleaned to reveal another part number and a manufacturer...not Mr T.
A quick call around quoting the part numbers has (7 days later) revealed that idler 1 is no longer manufactured, but idler 2 is, and costs............
.........£10.40 plus vat!
So, 2 bearings ordered later and im a happy teddy as itll cost me less than the price of one to replace the pair!
Ill post up the part number and maker once im in possession of the acursed bearings and let you know where you can get them from at the massively reduced cost!
Ciao!

As promised.
Lower tensioner idler part number: Koyo PU355816RR9D (original was H) No difference in size shape or smell...
Upper tensioner idler :Koyo DG1258RD1H this one is no longer made, but as the lower is almost identical ie, diameter, width, mounting hole size then i cant see why it cant be substituted with the the other part.
I got mine this morning from Industria Bearings (aerospace suppliers etc)
website here: www.industria.co.uk
Price each? 10.40 +vat. Toyota price? 39.95 +vat.
Upper tensioner is even more expensive at 79+vat!!!
Hope this helps someone else.
