Sold my Esprit V8 last week due to impending redundancy.. looking for reliable fun toy to run ‘til I sort myself out with a new job. 4k max budget, not too old.

Looked at nissan 200 sx, but all the good ones are more than I want to spend, ditto RX7 and supra. Don’t really want FWD but a 2.2 Vtec prelude 97-on fits the bill in all other areas.

Question: the early cheaper cars are 185bhp, later (99-on) cars have 197bhp.. is it possible to chip the early cars to get the full 197?

Any other advice or comments appreciated!

cheers
Rob

Hi.Damn good car, the Prelude. The H22a, BB1-4 or BB5-8 type engines aren't hugely tuneable. HKS, Apexi & Trust GReddy all make aftermarket ecu & piggy back controllers for it. I don't know the power increases, per se, but would imagine the sort of increase you are looking for, around the 200bhp mark, would be realistically obtainable without too much aggro.
