Honda confirms Civic Type-R
Hot hatch is go for 2007, says Honda
It’s official: an all-new Civic Type-R will return to British roads next year.
Honda has confirmed that a high-performance Civic will be launched at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. A concept vehicle will be unveiled at the event, and the Type-R will go on sale in the UK in early 2007.
The company' hasn't made technical details of the car available yet, but as soon as we get them, so will you. Honda reckoned that nearly 18,000 CTRs have been sold in the UK to date, built by the company's plant in Swindon, which will make the new one.
Discussion
From what I hear from my local dealer is that it is going to be a 2.2 or 2.4 with at least 220 probably 240 or more BHP. Should be a real stormer. Though one question remains unanswered - is it 3dr only? When asked Honda wouldnt comment on that one. Seems like they may do a 5dr which, IMHO, will dilute the brand and the car. Though will wait and see...
The dealer was well happy though - he cant wait to get hold of them and get them sold. Seems like something like 60%-70% of his CTR customers are already asking about the new one and will order one!

Ted, gonna test this one?
We could see a quick test, then this pic:
then 200 replies saying he's wrong!
Hmm... I think it was teh "potting shed on wheels styling" that caused it last time...
At least this time it looks like a "spaceage potting shed on wheels styling"

Can't help thinking they need to employ 4WD if they want to continue the battle for BHP. With the rumoured 248bhp it's going to struggle to be any use whatsoever at low speeds; LSD or otherwise.
Not so sure. Most manufacturers worth their salt can big numbers through the front wheels now without torque steer - and Honda knows its stuff.
Honda had to make this CTR. S200 aside (which is getting old now), what else have they got that's sporting?

I think the MazdaSpeed 3 will be 4wd when thats launched next year, so its starting to happen

Wasn't there some speculation about a Civic Type RR, which will have the 250bhp type power and still there will be a Type R with 200bhp?
That was the rumour I heard. Mind you, I reckon they might launch a 200ish bhp version in 2006 under a different name, with the proper Type R coming in 2007.
I can't decide on the styling. I think I like it. It's certainly different, but those front lights remind me of some older cars, and I reckon they'll lose their bright shiny look soon enough!

I will certainly be watching this space as it were.
Honda should definately build a new Prelude with RWD and around 250bhp. The RX8 needs a proper rival
Rumoured to have SH-AWD (sadly no active 4WS, which is a sell-out).
Look up their Sports 4 concept for a taster!
