Any advice on Honda 'Teg's greatly appreciated. I have a budget of £9K (absolute maximum) to spend, and have found I can buy an Integra with relatively low mileage for this sort of cash. There's one on Auto Trader now for £8,999 with 44k miles on the clock at a Honda dealer.

How much do they cost to run, and at what sort of age/mileage do major things start failing? I know it depends on how the car has been driven, but just ballpark figures would be nice. Any owners experiences would be good to read as well. I know a couple of people who frequent this forum are Teg drivers or have owned one in the past.

Do it! Get one!

£9k will get you a late model with average miles in excellent condition. That pretty much describes the one I sold in June.

I found that they're pretty cheap to run; insurance from Elephant was very reasonable and the only other significant cost was a £300 (major) service in 1 year and 6,000 of ownership. The only thing that went wrong was a speedo cable fault that was <£100 to fix. Fuel economy was pretty good considering the performance, especially if you're just cruising. They consume quite a lot of oil, hardly a massive cost but something to keep an eye on. Mine was still going strong at 51k and I'm sure they're good for much more so long as they're properly serviced.

If you haven't driven one already make sure that you have a good long drive to make sure that it suits you. Some people don't get along with the peaky nature of the engine, but for me it was all part of the fun. You really have to keep on top of it and make sure you're in the right gear at the right time to get the most out of it. If you can't heal and toe now you will after a couple months with a ITR! They're far from the quickest car around, but it's certainly one of the most satisfying driver's cars around.

Happy hunting!

I out-ran one in the MRT, but all the while I was thinking "I want his engine noise!"

I've had one for over 5 years. It's a fantastic car. Honda have a servicing scheme called Honda Happines which gives you cut price labour and spare prices, otherwise there are loads of independants who can service the car for you. I get about 260-270 miles from a tankful (45 litres) and my one uses very little oil.
As others have said, take a good long test drive, they are noisy, have a fairly harsh ride and are very uncompromising. A brilliant antidote to most mass produced Euroboxes.
Shameless plug Look in PH classifieds, I'm selling my White W reg one.......

They're great cars, generally considered the best handling FWD car, and a helluva lot of fun to drive. The ITR is fairly economical if you're not caning it - you'll get 30mpg if you're not VTECing it at every opportunity You will need to use super unleaded though, mine lives exclusively off Optimax...

9K should buy you a very nice one, they are very solid cars so can easily stand up to a bit of spirited driving. For that sum you should be able to get a nice late model with not too many miles.
