@ present i have greenstuff pads (way too soft) and drilled discs...
i have 'aquired' a set of very hard ceramic pads which i want to try...(to get the car ready for the 'Rice Run' ;) )
ive seen discs crack etc around the drilled holes before, so should i be wary of using a harder pad? (harder pads = more heat = more chance of cracking???)
cheers guys

Wonj't the ceramic pads need to work at a much higher temperature? You may find your braking is a bit naff at regular speeds???

Drilled discs are just bad, m'kay? They're notorious for cracking and even failing catastrophically if the cracks are allowed to develope. Stick with grooved discs they are much safer. Don't go over the top though, 6-8 grooves per side is plenty, these discs with 20 or even 40 grooves are compromising the contact area and wear characterstics for no benefit.

Are the discs that are not drilled fully, but just "dotted" just as bad for this?

On the Drilled discs try the DBA's. So far they are the only ones I have not been able to warp/crack

I've got these on the Impreza at the back and the front on the GTV. No signs of cracking, nor have I heard any rumours to that effect. They do make a funny noise though (imagine licking a golf ball). Personally I would stick with grooves only.

Agree drilled discs will prob *go* before grooved, but it's not exclusive(have seen quality grooved BNR34's go well before their time), personally I think matching pad compound to disc type/surface makes a ton of difference to brake *feel* & rates of wear.
Very hard, i.e ceramic pads, matched to big calipers will probably shorten the lifespan of any disc.
