Ahoy there!

Thinking about the possibility of getting a Nissan Primera GT (98ish) at the moment, and was looking for any words of advice, experience, opinions etc

Idea was suggested by Pwig, :wavey:

Any contributions would be great.

Thanks alot

carzee used to rated them i seem to remember...

I think they are a fair capable, nippy and reliable mainstream saloon. Should last forever with it being a Nissan.

I'd consider one if I was looking for that type of car.

My folks had one for a while, drove it quite a bit and it was not bad car at all. Not the fastest car, but handling was spot on, gearbox was good, steering quite direct. It was one of the cars I drove in my youth, so I drove it like I stole it and it took the punishment well.

The only primera I've had experience with was the SRI estate/wagon version (pretty similar spec IIRC).
Overall a damn good hack.Typical Nissan, built to withstand a tactical nuclear strike. Not exactly fast but good enough, with decent road manners.Interior is a bit bland, again sturdy build that can take the usual family abuse. Good comfy seats/drivers position.
There seem to be plenty of late '90's models around in good nick.A good work horse-with some kicks for the money, imo.

I got my '94 a few months ago - love it to bits so far. The handling's great, corners quite flat, loads of grip, precice and doesn't follow the grooves in the M6 Feels very chunky and well screwed together.

Unique design of front suspension don't you know, looks a bit like a standard MacP strut but they've somehow got a kingpin and an upper wishbone in there too. Mine needed a new upper for it's test. Wasn't expensive.

The engine's a bit peaky for me though TBH, you really need to rev the nuts off it to feel like you're getting anywhere. Only really comes on song at 4.5k+ (redlines at 7.5k)

I think a '98 will be the phase II model, not sure what the differences are... think its mostly styling.

Edited to add.. I'd deff. get an eGT rather than an SRi, the eGT's got a fair few extra ponies... (SR20DE rather than SR20De)
