Those are obviously the rock bottom prices so whats going to need replacing if i was to buy one and how much wonga?

Those vtecs are blisteringly fast, looks tempting but i wouldent want to be spending more than about £500 getting it roadworthy.

any help guys?

cheers, Tom

Timing belt for starters

Get the 4WS computer checked as well (if it has it)

Theres the usual wear and tear but on the whole theyre not that bad price wise to fix and replace.

I'm currently putting an F20B from an JDM accord SIR-T in mine, so should be a revvy little minx! The H22 VTEC is a great motor, add a nice decent exhaust (mugen twinloop) and the best 4 cylinder sound ever!

Have a look on the following sites for info:

last ones my prelude!

Great coupe. Horrible dashboard. 2.2Vtec is a stonking engine.

Not sure I'd go as far as "blisteringly" fast....

nah not blisteringly fast per-se, but quick enough, and loads of torque. with mods the engines quite potent, but your always going to be fighting the FWD chassis. My current raft of modsis to create well sorted suspension, and have a freer revving engine. The dash is a polariser of opinion indeed. You either hate it or love it. they should have gone full digital or put proper circular gauges in it IMHO. I'm redoing my dash with DEFI gauges and a HUD so it should be different but still look OEM-ish!

I personally wouldn't even look at a Prelude at £1000 - unless it was to be a track-slag.

I have one of the very last 4th generation 2.2 Vtec's as my road car, while not "blisteringly fast", I'd describe the power as ample.

If you go for the JDM one, you'll get a few more toys to play with and a little bit extra power +10-15bhp over the UK models, I think.

Best place to go is here - www.HondaRevolutions.com

Yup, the 4ws can be a prob.Apart from usual stuff like belts, the engines don't suffer much.Nor are they particularly prone to any rusting probs,JDM's aren't usually undersealed tho-so worth a good squint underneath.
Great cruisers,loadsa presence.

definately a good buy, I've had my 93 JDM vtec for 4 hard worked years and never had any real problems. Look out for rusty rear arches and get the cambelt changed. Other than that a few breathing mods (ehaust and decent panel filter or CAI), brakes and suspension will help out a treat and you'll have a very nice reliable motor for very little money.

Mine's the 2 wheel steer version which I prefer, the 4WS can be expensive if it breaks so I'd definately look for a 2WS import

What sort of Prelude is going to be fun on the track? I guess I'm looking for a 2.2vtec? Do they come in a manual as I'd hate to have an auto on a track!!

In my opinion for track work, the choice would be to go for the two wheel-steer, JDM model.

As I said above, you'll also get a few extra horses as well.

As someone once put it, the 4th Gen 2.2 Vtec Prelude is one of Japan's best kept performance secrets

Which is why I bought one, purely to find out what all the fuss is about....

Really, your best bet is to have a look @ HondaRevolutions.com

Edit: If your budget is 1k, I'd probably just stick the Golf / 205 idea

What would the budget have to be for a Vtec?
