Mitsubishi Concept X

Evo X just around the corner

Inspiration for the Evo X

The Mitsubishi Lancer has evolved through many generations now with the Evo IX currently enjoying the spotlight. It's about to be eclipsed though by the brand new Lancer which marks a new beginning for the car with a revolutionary new body style and a new engine.

The Concept-X show car is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder DOHC MIVEC intercooler-turbocharged engine that delivers enormous torque throughout the rev range. The Concept-X uses a clutchless 6-speed auto-manual transmission with paddle shifters mounted on the steering column to deliver quick shifting and higher transmission efficiency than a regular manual gearbox.

A new "ring-structure" frame design produces a significant increase in body stiffness, while the use of aluminium in the bonnet, boot lid, bumpers, roof and front and rear door panels reduces weight. Weight reduction, lowering the centre of gravity and reducing the moment of inertia were all goals for the design team.

The concept car also showcases Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology. A further step up the ladder for Mitsubishi Motors’ four-wheel drive traction and handling technology, S-AWC is based on Mitsubishi's full-time 4WD system, as used in the Lancer Evolution. S-AWC adds Active Brake Control, Active Steering System and Roll Control Suspension technologies to create one of the most complex - but capable - suspension arrangements available.

The production car on which the Concept X is the inspiration will go on sale in the UK midway through 2007.

Don't think it looks too bad. Can't see the head and rear lights staying the same though.
Certainly looks better than the current car. Would certainly consider getting one.

That would work a bit better as a two door coupe I reckon, still at least Mitsubishi are having an attempt at styling this time, didn't really both with the last couple did they.

Thats rather nice, would make a good alternative to the ubiquitous 3 series.

Love the front, back is ok but the lights look a bit small.

I'd definately consider a 2 door if I was them..

can't help this is the complete opposite of what EVO should be about...all this fancy electronics gizmos end up doing is de-coupling the driver from the road

EVO should be man and machining in perfect harmony, a driver's car - not a car that drives itself...

It'll be 276hp (that'll probably be very easy to change)

Not necessarily, the 'gentlemans agreement' in Japan has been killed off now, so its horsepower a-go-go....

Not exactly pretty though IMHO. It just oozes aggression wich some people may like, but a lot won't.

The best thing Mitsi could do to help sell this car would be to increase the ridiculously short service interval of the current Evo.

Do the road going versions of the all-conquering pugs and citroens look like rally cars?

I think it looks good, the front reminds me of the old 'sharknose' Galant

Is that rear diffuser for show though, or does it actually suck the car down?
