I was in California last week and took the opportunity to take a closer look at the new Z car in the showrooms there. I had read all the magazine articles and couldn't form an opinion on the car - I didn't like it in that gold colour which probably didn't help.

The dealer I went to had 2 x demos. 1 in silver and one in a deep silver/grey metallic colour. The car is gob smackingly gorgeous in the flesh, the external shape is really really nice. It definitely has 300zx genes. I love it! The seating position was nice, interior dials 'n bits were not bad (but not as good as a TT dare I say). I wasn't keen on the interior door cards/handles though ... maybe a highlighting colour is needed (the ones I saw were all black).

So. Don't rule this car out until you see it. All we need is for someone to offer a decent tuning package ...

P.S. I think Nissan made a big mistake not showing this car at the UK Motorshow - they had no sports cars on their stand and a big gap in the middle which looked like the 350z was originally planned to be shown. If it really is coming to the UK next year this would have got them a few early orders for sure!

Trefor/.

P.S. The dealer could have got me a car within 2 weeks at 2k over list price ... they don't have a waiting list over there as such. Pity it would be LHD and have lardy suspension/strangled tuning

Quite agree about the lack of a 350Z at the UK Motorshow. I would have been crawling all over it. Both Mazda (RX8) and Chysler (Crossfire) managed to show cars that won't be on sale here until next year.

I've got to say I'm very tempted by one of these too. This lot:

www.litimports.co.uk

are advertising imports at 26 - 29k, which looks fairly reasonable to me. According to what I read somewhere nissan may only bring a few hundred 'offical' cars over, in which case I bet the price will be sky high, like the R34 was.

Just been on the phone to my local dealer and they reckon £27k for a UK car, £500 deposit gets you near the front of the queue (behind me ) available around October 03.

Went to my local jap import specialist at the weekend. He's got 2 Z's, one 31k and one 34k with 18's and brembo's. Both from Japan.

Looked fantastic in the flesh, but can't see it being less then 30k when it gets to UK showrooms!

Im over in the States at the mo and a couple of colleagues are looking at the Infinity Q35, basically a 350Z but more luxurious, fully loaded with Sat Nav, 18" wheels and heated leather seats all for $36k.....Makes you want to poke Blair in the eye with a rusty camshaft. PS dont tell me it's not his fault, I dont care !!

JC (or was it Fat Bloke?) on Top Gear the other day hinted at £22K for the Z !!! Seems too good to be true to me. If it is under £25K I'm well interested.
