Just wondering if anyone can give an idea of what current shipping costs are for a medium sized hatchback? Thanks

It can be up to £1500 at the moment depending on which line you use, you might also struggle getting space depending on which agent you use and the clout they have with the shipping lines.
It's also not unheard of that cars get transhipped multiple times and take months to arrive.

That's a very good rate, do you know which line? I was about 15USD a cube more, but into Bristol which is always more expensive for some reason. I have heard of +50% "emergency" rates being charged eek

Enjoy the scooby!

Does anyone know what the import duty rate would be for importing a Golf from Japan. I make it 10% but someone advised me it could be 4.2%. Thanks

I was £300 approx duty on a car that was just under £5k.

I've got lots of examples, none are 10% but it's not the easiest to check accurately due to exchange rates at the time being different etc.

Of course approx £1k for Vat as well

I can't confirm the cost of my Cedric but it was only £120 duty. I think that was on a Japan shipped cost of £2300 or so

Cheers, are all the examples of cars that were built in Japan? Reason i ask is i read somewhere that the duty is less on these.

They were all JDM.

I cant see why it would matter being built somewhere else, as cars can be manufactured anywhere before being sold in whatever country you buy it from.

Id need to ask my shipping agent but I wonder if the duty is 10% but based only on the car price, not the total shipped price. That might be an explanation
