Hi people - long time no post...

I'm uprating my brakes on my mk1(89) mr2 and would like suggestions on pads and discs...

There is an intention to drop the tubby mk2 engine into my Mk1 over the next year so preferably the brakes should be able to cope with this...

Suggestions...?

I've seen a mk2 tubby post saying that drilled are bad as they crack easier and red over green stuff pads...

Mintex or Pagid pads seem to get a good reception.

I've recently changed front discs and pads on my Corolla. I've put Tarox "Sport Japan" drilled and grooved discs on with Tarox "Strada" pads. Much better braking than the standard setup and this combination workes well from cold. Only downside is that I get more dust on my alloys. I got mine from Need for Speed.

There is always the Celica GT4 (ST185/ST205) front disc/caliper conversion is available which is the prefered upgrade amongst the MK1 owners - especially those dropping MKII-T engines in.

If you were to leave the 1.6 N/A engine in, then personally I wouldn't bother with anything other than putting in decent pads on the stock discs and calipers.

This site/forum (Twobrutal) is a fantastic resource for MK1.5 conversions if you haven't stumbled accross it before.
