Mazda saying this is normal...

So my mum has a CX30, she has had it from new. Even when new, when cold, there can be considerable condensation on the inside of the windscreen. I've seen it before, it certainly isn't normal in my opinion, and there can be numerous drops of water on the dash.

I asked her to film/photograph it to show, and she sent me this

I've suggested contacting Mazda head office, as I really don't think that is normal!

Anyone else found anything similar with that model?

Not normal!

You can get some condensation from the air con which would clear very quickly but I suspect she has a leak into the cabin. I’d take the mats out and put some kitchen roll on the carpet overnight and see if it is damp in the morning

Not a Mazda, but the only time I had internal condensation like that in a Golf was when the drains were blocked. Could hear sloshing noises in the body somewhere as the car moved around. Once they were rodded through, draining all the water out, it reduced significantly.

Could try treating the inside with rainx or similar to try and alleviate it too.

Considering the car did this from new I'd be surprised if it was blocked drains? I'll definitely suggest something like Rain-X, thanks smile

It is only the windscreen, not the side or rear windows, I'd have thought if it was moisture coming in via the floor that it'd effect the other windows too? It's a good suggestion though.

Does she routinely leave the AC off?? It's not just for cooling as it'll dry the air too.

Yeah, I've suggested the following for now:

Ensure AC set to automatic RE air distribution.
Ensure AC set to automatic RE recirculate/fresh air.
Thoroughly clean internal windows with alcohol based cleaner.

She's also going to remove mats this evening and put kitchen paper on the carpets.

This is why sane people run aircon all year round. If you do, this doesn't even exist as a problem.

I'm not convinced it's that, she's 100 miles away so I can't check her settings, but she's never had this in any previous car and I assume her AC settings are similar.

We have a CX5 and that mists up the windscreen very easily. More so than even my old Landie. Leaving the ac on all the time does help - I leave it on the Eco setting, and try not to sit in the car for long on a cold morning before starting it.

Why would you leave it on eco if you have a condensation problem? Aircon on (auto settings and fan, not eco) and recirculation off is what should be used.

It was near to minus 6 last night , I moved my 2022 CX5 first thing this morning & yes there was a lot of condensation inside bit not ice. I then went & moved my old ( 24 year old RAV4 ) & this had ice on the inside of the windscreen . I suspect the door seals are not sealing or showing signs of perishing. Does she have a sunroof ? Could be the weakness here .

Worth getting one of those dehumidifier bags that you can microwave once damp. Can’t remember the brand I’ve used but they really helped to keep my SLK55 condensation free

Seems to work fine for me.

So I've just confirmed via video call that her settings are as follows:

Temp - left 18deg, right 22deg
Fresh air intake (ie recirculation off
Fan speed auto

Here's another photo of this morning. It's only at the base of the windscreen. Thoughts??



This photo was actually taken in October 2022....when the car was almost brand new - you can see where the blower has pushed the water droplets up.

My CX30 doesn't do that and it's a similar age to your mum's car. That is not normal and I would be going back to Mazda about it.

Thanks. We contacted Mazda UK who asked for the VIN, which was provided the next day. 3 days later and not heard anything back....Will chase up on Monday. It'll be interesting to see what they say/do!

I wonder if the recirc button on the heater panel is actually working?

Had one car that did similar, stuck on recirc.
