Any V8 Miatas around there?
Discussion
We've got several LS1 V8 Miatas running around here in the western US and a couple with ZO6s in them. Besides mine, there are 4 friends in various states of building their own LS V8 Miatas a couple with some serious engine mods already. My close friend Bill's Monster Miata is a seriously modified, 400+HP 5.0 Ford and he's got 60,000 miles since installing the V8 50,000 street miles, 10,000 racing miles with no problems. There are estimated to be about 200 Ford 5.0 V8 Miatas in various stages of completion probably about 60 running.
Got any good examples in the UK yet?

Hey Jon, thanks for invitin' me over from the Colonies!!
We use the Corvette and F-body T-56 Tremec six-speed, nice fit, comes up in stock shifter location. Rear-end are Ford 8.8 IRS with custom shortened axles and helical gear posi like GURU (Australian V8 Supercars) the stock Miata hubs are broached to the Ford axle splines.
Appears as stock Miata, ultimate "Sleeper" for luring the unsuspecting.
We'll have our website up at www.Howard-Performance.com[/url] featuring two V8 Miatas a 415 RWHP Ford 5.0 and my LS1

There is a guy over here who stuck a rover v8 engine in one:

THe largest number of V8 MX5 Miata conversions here are Ford 5.0s there are small V8 conversion kit companies and they've sold about 200 or so. The 5.0s are easy to find and installm new or used but stock only make 225 HP. To get 400 HP from a Ford 5.0 costs a fortune and then you are running a possible grenade under the bonnet.
Those are a few of the reasons we're running GM LS V8s plus when I walk into my son-in-laws shop there's always 7 or 8 LS V8 engines sitting around.

I'd seriously like to run one !
I'm competing in the UK's national drift series & my 1.6 with a turbo is running out of puff at 220bhp & I want more, lots more!!!
I've been keeping a close eye on some of these are just
I've seen the Lexus V8 conversion & that looks like a sweet install but it required full management. I like the idea of running stock reliable power. The LS seems like the better option especially weight wise.
If you have any hard facts, sorces & info I'd be very very interested for a my drifty toy

Hey Gravel Ben,
Can you give me any info to find or contact the Aussie conversion outfit you talked about that does the Holdens, I'd really like to have a look.
- Thanks
www.bulletcars.com is one that I found, I'm not sure if they're the same outfit I've heard of previously but they do a fairly complete conversion rather than just a motor swap. If I happen to find any more I'll post them up on here
jsut realised that they actually use the lexus v8, will keep looking for the guys that use holden.

Thanks for the info, beautiful chassis but I tend to like my Corvette LS engines. I've got GM racing experience nad I've always had to fix what I drive. That Lexus V8 reminds me alot of the Cadillac Northstar. I have a few friends that raced Northstars and they tend to overheat and now Cadillac no longer makjes them instead opting for new generation LS V8s also in Cadillacs too.
Ben,I'll e-mail you and CaptSideways a couple of pictures of my car, you can see what a great fit the LS1 T-56 is.
Thanks guys
