Afternoon all

I am on the hunt for a set of number plates for my recent import. I am looking for metal pressed plates which are UK road legal, so will have the correct spacing etc and have the BS AU standard printed on them.

I have been googling but can't find that specific combination. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I've used Chestunt Registrations in the past for pressed aluminium plates.

They seem to specialise in vintage plates, but also can do modern plates in pressed metal as well.

The title says JDM, are you after Japanese style/size plates specifically?

Because strictly speaking you're only allowed that size plate if you have an import car that won't take a normal UK plate in the recess.

This isn't something that usually attracts much attention if you have plastic plates, but if you have stamped metal ones as well, you may be more likely to catch the eye of a particularly humourless copper.

Also the nature of how a real Japanese plate is set up with the typography etc, I don't think you'll ever get one that both looks properly like the Japanese equivalent and is fully UK legal.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I had already been on pressednumberplates.co.uk and their JDM size plate is plastic, funnily enough it isn't metal as their name would suggest. I will have a look at chestnut registrations, thanks.

I thought that too InitialDave until recently, yes I meant JDM size plates, so roughly 33 x 16.5cm overall dimension.

Number plates in the UK need to follow BS AU 145e. My understanding is that this standard dictates various things such as spacing, letter font etc but does not limit the overall plate size to any specific dimensions. All plates need this standard printed on them and you can buy acrylic plates with the standard on them easily. Based on what I have read, I see no grounds for asking that one be removed and a "standard" UK plate fitted.

Thought it was worth the question, seems likely the specific plate I require isn't available or common. Plastic it is then.

Thanks all

Hi
I used JDMplates.co.uk a few years ago to get a legal but smaller than barn door motorcycle plate. As the name suggests they started by doing legal plates for imports.
You can email them through their site. I found them to be very helpful.

That is correct, but it's very hard to get a "full" reg onto a JDM size plate within those rules, though a shortened personal reg is probably doable, and either way, it won't look like a Japanese plate as their character font and size are much different.

Thanks all for comments, jdmplates seem to do the JDM size which is road legal.

Failing that, think I will go with the rice krispies box and a felt tip.

Have a good weekend.
