Celebrating 90s performance
Discussion
One wasn't enough, so I had this one at the same time. Ex-racecar made road legal by previous owner. Standard engine, crazy gearbox and racing suspension. Much less power than the one above, but capable of much higher cornering speed, plus the final drive and tall first gear (roughly 60-75-90-110-125) made it rapid in a straight line anyway
I used this daily for 2 years commute as well!

Good question! You are spot on with the comparison point I reckon. I also own a JZX90 and have owned a JZX100.
Where as the Laurel is the obvious direct competitor for those, the Leopard seems half way between the Aristo/GS and the MarkII/Chaser.
It has the feel when driving of a granite hewn piece of incredible engineering, but has the interior dimensions of a more compact saloon, and outwardly of the ‘hardtop’ /Coupe style.
It can definitely hustle at pace and is really good fun down a b road and is a lovely motorway cruiser.
I have never driven a Windom/ES of the same era, but they didn’t do a turbo version as far as I know. If they had, I guess that would have been a similar concept.

I had a 1993 Skyline GTS25t before my 2006 Crown, with the Skyline flowing so nicely down the roads a fair pace with the joyous security you get from the proper engineering that only JDM can give.
My one (series 1) also had moveable aero with 3 settings (always up / automatic / always down), apparently incredibly rare on R33's being most common on R31/2's.
Once I'd taken delivery I quickly realised that being "just" at GTS-t was no bad thing and the JDM metal is just glorious

I have to say that GTS looks really good. So beautifully proportioned in a muscular but in handsome way.
I think most of the JDM stuff from the 90’s is aging very well.
Can’t help thinking that these were maybe a little more than shed money back in the day. They must be 20k for a good one these days.

It's the only car I've ever made money on, think a good one is now £12~£15k. My original plan was to start with standard and mod it to the extreme just like I did in Gran Turismo 1, however it was so good as standard that I kept it like that which also meant I was nearly unique in that I did nothing to it right down to the HICAS which I found very good - but I never drifted or tracked it.I think most of the JDM stuff from the 90’s is aging very well.

My turn
Lancer Evolution V.
No power mods beyond filter, de-cat and exhaust but loads spent on chassis braces and suspension. Single best car I’ve ever driven and hoping to get another one when prices calm down.
Nissan Skyline BNCR33 GTR
Gran Turismo? Completed it mate.
Big single turbo, 1000cc injectors, 4” exhaust, big brakes, re-done suspension. Perfection. Way too fast for anything other than dual carriageways but never fails to put a smile on my face. If it ever comes up for sale again I’d be tempted to buy it back.
