Hey all, I'm thinking of picking up a Mazda 6 estate for our next family car but can't decide whether to go for the sport version or regular se-l. Looking at a 2015-2018 petrol version with the 2l engine, either 163bhp in the sport or 143bhp in the se-l. Has anyone driven both to comment on real worl differences? The sport although more powerful also has 19" alloys Vs 17 on the se, I'm wondering if around town and overtaking etc the larger alloys will make it more sluggish and negate the extra power. Both engines seem to have the same torque value. Tbh I'd also prefer the cloth seats in the se-l as I find leather shows it's age more. Anyone comment on whether the sport is worth paying the extra for? Thanks.

I have a CX5 2.0 with 165bhp manual gear box , I would not think you would notice much difference below 4,000 revs. Good engine but old fashioned in the way it drives , feels pretty flat below 3,000 revs , you need to work it hard on hills to make progress . I nice gear box so a pleasure to drive.

I've not driven the petrol but currently have the diesel (sport version). Ride is not good, most likely the 19s, very fidgety/busy ride, a bit of sidewall makes more sense on a family estate in my opinion. My BMW E91 SE was a magic carpet in comparison, far superior.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Yeah that's what I suspected, the 19's are overkill. Could always swap to smaller wheels but that involves a bit more faff than I would want currently.
I'd be happy with the se-l if I knew that the 143bhp was enough for a big car like the 6.
