Ok so i *need* more power, and i fancy a change, so, MR2 Turbo would be ok, but is alittle small, a Supra's too big, and the missus does not like Skylines.
so RX7?
would be my second car, so MPG isn't a huge prob,
any pointers recommendations etc..
IAIN!!!

You called?

You know the answer before you asked the question...

Get your butt over to www.mazdarotaryclub.com and www.fduk.org and check out the info there and for sale.

What's your budget and how much power do you need?

I reckon mine's worth about 8-9.5k and is 293rwhp BUT it's had a lot more spent than it's worth (~20k including purchase price!). If you can stretch to that region you'll get a rebuilt one that's going to be little or no hassle and bags of smiles. For 5-7k you would be looking at no rebuild and tatty to no rebuild and mint, low miles.

Where abouts are you - it's a good plan to get a ride in one to get an idea of them. Ask Gaz - I think he liked mine

There's a buying section with hints and tips on MRC (under the 'General' section...), lots of info in there. FDUK also has info.

You might find a car that's been rebuilt for that money but you would probably be looking at something standard and poss a bit tatty externally. There are some bargains to be had for sure though.

Personally I'd try to find an extra 2k and get something decent(er)...

You have no reason not to matey!!!!

If I had £6k to spend and was in the market for a 'rex, I reckon thiswould be a wise investment (in my unexperienced opinion)

That does look very tidy indeedy!

I'd get any car claiming a rebuild tested for decent compression (you'll need to find a rotary compression tester as boingy ones don't work!) unless you can verify (by paperwork) the bonafides of the rebuild.

Seen a few that've 'been rebuilt recently in Japan' pop after no miles in the UK and you'd only have the sellers word for it.

Always worth getting an expert opinion on them and the list (off the top of my head) that's south western is:

Re:worx - Portsmouth
Dragon Performance - Exeter
Hayward Rotary - Newbury

Other decent rotary specialists are:

Rotechniks (Reading, aleggedly expensive)
WGT Auto Dev (Northwich, Cheshire - Pip's the man! Rebuilt mine and knows the rotary inside out.)
GA Racing Devs - Norwich

Every time we discuss RX7s, I'm reminded how much I want one. In blue please. No silly body kits, mildly breathed on for 350-400bhp, sorted handling and a set of nice alloys will be just fine.

Don't wrap it, I'll drive it home.

(This also happens when we discuss Supras (black) and Skylines (white or purple). I need help.)

Hmm... I know how you feel actually. As much as I'm a TVR man (and very happy I am too) there is a certain appeal to the RX-7.

As someone said on PH, the RX-7 is the TVR of the Jap scene...

What, thirsty, prone to spitting you into the nearest field should you take libities with it and always in the shop being fixed?

They might have had a point....

(before the flaming starts, I know. I know.)
(Besides, it could do 3mpg and break down once a week and I'd *still* want one. Much in the same manner I want a Griff 500 then)
