Hi all,

I've been looking at various JDM cars with my son of late. Now he's old enough to start learning to drive he's taken an interest in the drift scene (blame F&F and Forza Horizon!), which has taken me down a path of educating him on the only JDM car I've ever owned, a Mitsubishi FTO. It was the car I owned when I met my now wife and mother of my children and after some arm twisting I think I've convinced her how great it would be to get back in to another one. Before I go looking for a suitable example, I wanted to see if it was at all possible to find "my" old one, registration (as per title) M162 MYT.
I live in Essex, and I sold it to a garage on the A127 near Basildon in 2000. I know it originally got sold to someone in the neighbouring town to me as a friend would see it from time to time parked up outside a property a couple of years later.

If anyone by any chance on here is the owner or knows how I can get in touch with the current owner (assuming it's still on the road) I'd love to get in touch even if just to share ownership stories of the car.

It was a 1995 Passion Red FTO GPX with the manual transmission.

Many thanks
Jay

If you have a look at the mot checker it doesn't look good.

Failed in 2014 with some 156k miles on it for a variety of issues. Then nothing. Then failed again with similar issues in 2017 and nothing since.

I suspect it may have gone to the great scrap heap in the sky...

Ah ok, thanks a lot for that info. Annoying I'm unlikely to get my old one back on the drive but maybe if I come across a good enough example I will pull the trigger.

Thanks again for the help, Swampy1982

I don't have any original pictures of the car besides this one. Sorry for the poor quality but all I have is a picture in a frame (hence iPhone photo of the picture in a frame sorry)

Back when I first bought it.. before it got ruined clearly smile

At least you know now I guess, frees you up to try and find another decent example.

Good luck with your search

It's currently marked as SORN so there's a chance it might not be scrapped.

I love the looks of an FTO but surely there must be something better to get for scratching a JDM itch. How many left? list lesd than 100 left in the UK which really makes it one to avoid for easily keeping them on the road now they are a modern classic with modern classic problems.

To be honest it's not a JDM itch, more an attempt at nostalgia of a very fond point in my life.
Having said that, at the time I was looking at a few options including; Mk4 Supra, Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT) but then a work colleague was selling the above FTO and went with that.
I never realised just how few there are left over here until starting the search for my old one and thanks to your latest info I can see there's not much point looking for a different example.
My son is learning to drive now and I'm certain he's going to buy himself a Japanese car so I'll get to experience it again through him I'm sure. He's currently obsessing over Chaser's
