Fors:
The engine is crafted in Japan.
Superb gearchange - good job too as you use it a lot.
You can drive it as hard as you like without worrying what's gonna fall off next. It'll only need petrol, oil, tyres, brake pads and a clutch some time in the future.
Good balance of grunt and economy (I average about 29mpg with multiple VTEC bursts travelling mostly on country roads).
Can seat 4 adults in relative comfort if required.
Honda dealers are generally pretty good bunch.
They hold their value fairly well.
Againsts (is that a word?):
The body is knocked together with European components in Britain hence it rattles a bit.
Dodgy steering, but you put up with it.
Seats are average compared to 'Teg Recaros.
Stereo is poop.
No LSD. Wheelspins for England if you fairly sharp with the controls in the wet.
Suspension is a tad too hard for bumpy roads, superb for smooth surfaces and newly laid dual carriageways and roundabouts though.
Can be a bit of a green house in the hot weather with all the glass area.
Considered a Clio myself when thinking about changing motors, but I couldn't get comfortable and it was fairly cramped inside. CTR's are Marmite cars, you need to drive them for a while to see if they suit.

I have just bought one so yes.
Some good points:
The Vtec scream
It looks the dog bollox, the seats and interiour looks fantastic
Stunning gearbox
Bad Points:
The seats are much too hard for long journeys
It tramlines all over the place
It needs to be treated carefully in the wet
Mine:

LOL I just checked your profile and thought the link said blokes of farnham
I've got an '02 coming up for sale at the end of August, mail me if you are interested.
I've just sold my 03 plate CTR,
In the 2 years of ownership the car only cost me a service and a front tyres. It didn't use a drop of oil between services and I drove it like I stole it
On a long journey I found the revs a little too high to be comfortable, it's approx 3500 @ 70mph which rises to 4000 or so at 75.
The steering can feel a little vague to a new driver and it's easy to catch out the electronic steering with large rapid steering inputs.
After a week of driving, you'll be used to it and know exactly whats needed.
In the wet the stock bridgestone potenzas are worse than bad, they let go of the road with the slightest hint of power. I changed to yokohama parada spec2 and reduced road noise, increased wet grip and also vastly imporved dry turn in feel.
The 04 facelift addressed some of the issues with softer suspension and a little more feel to the steering, it also brought a lighter flywheel and clutch to the party.
Things to watch out for on pre loved cars would be
Tyre wear on the edges, outer front edges and inner rear edges due to geometry errors made by the production monkies.
headlight levelling motors, they go ape and motor full time.
i'd suggest a car with A/C too as there is an awful lot of glass on the civic, can be like driving a green house.

Fantastic car especially for the money. Honda dealers are selling new 05 plate pre-registered cars for £16k. Just be prepared to keep it. We bought a pre-reg car and now have a pregnancy (it's not a family car - seats don't come forward enough and limited access to rear which has only two seat belts) and had to px it after just 4 months and the px was pretty dismal. Why? Because there was once a high demand for Type R's and they ramped up production but when demand eased off, they kept the production ramped up so lots of cars about.
Result? Honda dealers with lots of pre-reg Type R's on their hands who don't want to buy nearly new cars back as they have too many new ones to sell cheaply.
A Toyota dealer offered us a mind-raping £12500 (WTF???) against a new pre-reg Corolla Verso (exit holding sides) and we have just basically got £14k for a Feb 05 pre-reg car in mint condition with 3200 miles on the clock against a new Mazda 5.
Funnily enough, all the dealers rubbed their chins sagely and said "Ah, but it's a pre-reg car and nobody wants to be the 3rd owner". My reply was "You, the motor trade, invented the fiction of the pre-reg car which you know is really brand spanking new so cut the crap".
Anyway, I initially thought the cra was a bit bland but it has really, really grown on me. Quick, superb handling hot hatch in the finest tradition.

In summary, if you don't mind the near-feel-less electric steering, then you'll get on well with the car, esp. the '04 facelift versions. It's the only real fault, from a drivers perspective (well, the lack of an LSD too).
Agreed on the tyres - Yoko's, Toyo's, Eagle F1's...or if you can find them B'stone S-02's (totally different compound and tread - compare well with the other three)

Lee that location looks very very familar, my parents are just around the corner
You don't remember Matty and his cheps?!? I seem to recall you guys ended up with a table full of the things!!!
So, when did you get the s2k? And what's it like?
Feel the same about Honda-R...got too cliquey a while back, and from what I understand it's getting slightly chavish now.
Me? Well, I sold the 'teg a couple of weeks ago ( missing it already)...currently have a diesel Focus while I look for a weekend toy to go with it...reason being I'm leaving Jag (oh yeah...joined them about 2 years ago...how long's it been since I saw you...gotta be nearly 2 years since the last Ferret, hasn't it?!?), and I will be commuting 75 miles a day, so much as I hate to do it a diesel is required.
Otherwise life is pretty good...planning a wedding for next year, no real complaints (not now I'm leaving the hell-hole that is Ford Motor Co, anyway!!! )
What have you been doing with yourself?
