Do dealership managers get end of month bonuses?
Discussion
Hi All,
Just interested to hear what others make of my experience last week with a Lexus dealership...
They advertised the car on the 20th Aug, I spotted it in Autotrader, as it was 150 miles away I asked a lot of questions, the salesman was great and sent videos, so I placed a deposit on the 21st.
They said was I happy to collect the car that month and I said yes of course the sooner the better. I filled out all the various paperwork and signed the forms over the internet.
They serviced and prepped the car and the arranged date of collection was 31st August (yesterday).
Unfortunately, on the 26th I had to postpone that date to rearrange collection for the 2nd September (tomorrow).
So, the 31st comes and the dealership phone me to ask for full payment of the car, approx 60k less deposit already paid.
I said I'd rather pay in full when I arrive on the 2nd and actually see the car, I'll take my laptop and transfer the money instantly.
The managers of the dealership insisted on payment and pressurised me to pay. It ended up with a stalemate as I wasn't going to pay 'sight unseen' and I suggested either they wait 2 more days or we cancel the whole deal.
They chose to cancel the deal.
Now I see today they have readvertised the car on Autotrader for the same price.
The whole thing has me baffled. Would it be because the managers would receive a big bonus if they sell a car in the same month as they advertise it? Can't think why else they would throw away a 60k done deal.
Any ideas?

Surprised to hear they let it go as far as cancelling the deal, in my main dealer days we would push to get the deals paid up by month-end wherever possible but would never go the extent of losing a deal. Perhaps they felt you would give them a bad review or maybe they could sell it with some/more add-on products to someone else.
