Nissan Largo Headache
Discussion
I bought this 2.4 litre jap import early summer with the plan to use it for days away, possibly nights, with the kids. All was great for the first couple of hundred miles until the crankshaft decided to snap and put a stop to that.
In an ideal world i would source a replacement engine and be on my way again but this is proving to be extremely challenging. Info is scarce.
The bodywork is really good with no rust underneath so i would hate to give up on it and scrap it.
It has a ka24de engine in it but these seem to be like finding rocking horse st.
I would love to get it going again, don't really care if its fast or slow, just moving would be nice.
So if anyone has any advice, suggestions or contacts i would really appreciate the help.
Thanks
There's a breakers yard in Peterborough that specialises in Jap parts, they bring in containers full of parts from Japan.
Sorry, I can't remember which yard it was, there seems to be two advertising.
It would be a mighty long wait for the engine, and I'm sure they'd want payment up front for such a rare engine/car, but that might be a solution for you if they could buy one over there and stick it in their container.

That's a shame about the crankshaft! I wonder what happened to cause it, would hate it to recur with a new engine.
AFAIK the KA24DE was mainly installed in North American market cars, e.g. the 240SX (which was their S13/S14 200SX) all had it. So if you want another KA24, you might find one in the states, potentially if someone has removed one in order to insert an SR20DET or LS1 instead. Since it broke the 2L tax threshold, I think it was less common in Japanese models.

I don't *know* how similar the installation is in the S-body to the Largo, both are longitudinal mounted RWD though. I also have no idea what condition those engines are, buying a used motor is always a bit of a risk.
Another option is, the W30 Largo is based on the Serena chassis, so you might be able to swap an engine from a 2.0 Serena in (SR20DE). Quite a few Serenas around to find a used engine from.
The 'PH option' would be an SR20DET swap but probably more cost and hassle than it's worth.

It's a 2.0 petrol so should be SR20, but auto so may be missing flywheel.

The UK model Terrano 2 (R20) 93 to 06 was fitted with a version of the KA24.
They were rare even when new though as most were diesels, even rarer now 25 years later.
Probably of little or no help but you never know.
Thanks. Any help is appreciated and gives me another route to exploreThey were rare even when new though as most were diesels, even rarer now 25 years later.
