Exporting TO Japan (Shaken Test)
Discussion
Hi all - can anyone recommend me someone who has experience of exporting from the UK to Japan please?
Not so much for shipping, more for the specifics of the Shaken test.
Whilst I am generally aware of what I might me letting myself in for tax and duty wise, I can‘t seem to easily find a decent summary or indeed detail of what the test specifically covers, and where i would like to have the car assessed against that standard before putting it on the water.
The car is a 2005 Jag XKR I have and am recommisioning.

I'd advise looking at what cars are available used in Japan, as it may well work out better financially to sell the car you have any buy another Jag there.
Anyway, if the car's unmodified and in decent condition then I don't think it's that different from our MoT test, if it passes a genuine MoT here it's probably ok.
Some links that outline the steps in the inspection:

Many thanks much appreciated ! It’s really a man maths exercise to have something fun for weekends or touring for what will probably equate to a used hatchback. I inherited the car from my late father and am recommissioning it to what will be a pretty decent standard, and given I have to do that work anyway, I thought to take it with me and have prepped in advance to meet the standard. Otherwise agreed, if it doesn’t work out or is too daft cost wise, I just get something locally…
I have put 3 cars and a couple of motorbikes through the Shaken, as the poster above states it’s not really that difficult. The whole dealer/shaken/deriving eco system in Japan is a total racket.
I think the MOT and Shaken is the same, and it’s true that certain makes and models (particularly JDM ) are sometimes more expensive there than here, jags and Daimlers are dirt cheap from what I can remember
