Unable to choose a correct model for car insurance..
Discussion
I hope anyone can get me to the right direction. My car is a 2019 Toyota Camry Petrol standard engine without Hybrid, it's a normal right hand drive from Hong Kong and it's registered With DVLA already. V5c is received however the model is blank, it didnt say "Camry" in that column. Is this normal they don't say the model name there?
I went on insurance price comparing sites I couldn't find the correct vehicle with my registration number and unable to find a correct model manually except it's hybrid engine model. What can I do? The insurers either said they can't find it then they can't insure it. Im so lost and frustrated been looking for answer few days already..
If anyone could help me in this and guide me please

A long time ago when I sold car insurance for a high street insurer, I would create a dummy group based on your specification (then get sign off from Underwriting) to allow you to get insured, but it's down to the competency of the person you speak to.
You'll get nowhere with comparison sites and will be better off speaking to insurance brokers.

I don't think its normal to miss off the model - after you get it insured you may want to take that up with DVLAI went on insurance price comparing sites I couldn't find the correct vehicle with my registration number and unable to find a correct model manually except it's hybrid engine model. I suggest you contact the brokers advertising insurance for Jap imports as they have delegated schemes not reliant on ABI codes AFAIK.. The Association of British Insurers allocate a long number to every model, trim level , bodystyle and engine option for cars sold in uk and comparison sites and most insurers use these . No ABI code - no quote

Try a broker over the phone like Brentacre, Sky, A-Plan. I imported a Dodge Challenger and my V5 only displays the Make, no model, so I think it is quite normal for imports.
It is also too early for mine to appear on comparison sites etc and wouldn't even show up on the insurers link to the DVLA database. They did take the reg from me and can always check on the DVLA vehicle enquiry site.

As already said, you need to speak with some brokers; if 'computer says no' you're wasting your time trying to do it online.
Apart from imports, it's not unknown for UK-supplied cars to be mis-described on V5C from new (one of mine is), a discussion with a sensible ins company rep should resolve it, although if it's not a recognised European model that will complicate it a little. Not insurmountable, but potentially not straightforward either.

Well done mods for moving this to this section
Anyway - OP are you sure you've tried all the list given above? I find it very difficult to believe that they won't insure you, however it does sound like it won't be cheap. Is this your first car or are you under 25?
If you can drive super carefully so you don't have a claim then try Adrian Flux, personally I've never liked them but they normally quote anything to anyone.
Good luck.

Yes I did try and Adrian Flux as well. I forgot the reason why though. Yea, this is my first car, im 40 now from Hong Kong so I don't have any NCB or enough residency. I been given reasons by these company ex. the postcode, not enough year with residency,no ncb, having a foreign license.... Thx Tommo. Yea I find it very difficult too and very frustrated. I guess I have to store my car for now....Anyway - OP are you sure you've tried all the list given above? It's bad, ain't it? I will try that site but again as a import even though it's registered it doesn't let me choose the correct model. I might have to call in to tell them it's not a hybrid...man fuxkin A, if it's not an import I can get insured even from Admiral. Just choose a damn regular UK car and pay online!! That's it!!! God! Which brokers have you tried - there's a bunch of us who've dealt with grey-import brokers for years, may be able to recommend others...
Try many of them included aplan, acorn, adrian flux, basically many of them giving their own reasons why I'm not covered including postcode, year of residency, type of drivers license....man I don't what to say..Gassing Station | Japanese Chat | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
