My sister has asked me to help with my late BiL's Elgrand, which she wants to sell now that he's no longer with us.

I know little to nothing about this vehicle except what it is, and the fact that it was somewhat converted by a company, possibly in Bedfordshire, who add a sink, water supply, cupboards, etc so that it can be used as what I guess you would call a day van?

Anyway, the issue is that the motorised sliding side door isn't working. She sent me a video and there's loads of beeping going on, and what looks like a steel cable hanging down. I assume this is what should be pulling the door open.

Anyone got any clues as to what the fault might be? i.e. has the motor failed, is there a broken gizmo stopping the cable from being pulled, etc? I haven't had a look at it myself yet but I have a horrible suspicion that anything we need to get to will be buried behind the "camper" furniture as well.

Would appreciate a steer on this if anyone knows?

My guess would be that the cable has come off a pulley at the end of the door track.

Thanks for the tip. I'll need to work out how to get into it to have a look. I'm told access to the mech is via the wheel arch?

Possibly. Although interior side trim would also be likely.
