Thinking of buying an rx8, what’s the deal with car tax?

Done a bit of digging and seems some rx8’s are £500 and some £250.

Could one of you clever lot give me a definite answer which models/years are the cheaper car tax??

Cheers

An RX-8 registered pre 23rd March 2006 will be less, because that is when changes to emissions VED was made.

The only other outside possibility is that if one had been imported from Japan, it would be classed as PLG and fall into the pre-2001 categories of £165 for up to 1.5L, £270 for over. In this case it should be on the £270 rate, however some people have managed to import rotaries and get them registered as 1308cc (since that's what it says on the Japanese export document), and get the lower rate.

However I've never heard of RX-8s being imported from Japan, since they were so readily and cheaply available here, so this is all very unlikely - for the UK market cars the explanation given covers it.
