Was having a chat with a bloke at work about car dealers and the quality of their work when he mentioned he knew a guy who trained Honda technicians.
One story he retold from his trainer friend that made me laugh was how Honda technicians are excellent at checking things and servicing cars. However, when it comes to the proper mechanic work, taking things apart and rebuilding them, engines in particular, they aren’t so good or quick due to the fact they don’t get the opportunity to do it too often because the cars hardly ever go wrong!!
Is this a good thing or a bad thing I wonder?
The adverts have gone down hill a bit though since Cog (bits of Accord knocking eachother over).

It's this method of modular/compartmentised(sp?) training a lot of the big comps(not just cars either) go for.
You end up with exceptionally well trained workers who can do specific tasks superbly.Problem here can be that individuals arn't encouraged to think outside the box or think laterally incorporating their knowledge/skills.So if a job comes along that specific training has not been given for,they have to pass it up to the next tier & so on.
The days of the 1 man 'can do most things' garage must surely be numbered.
Lucky most of these engines are dead reliable
