I have a GT86 which is just a year old and I purchased it second hand in March. It was an ex-demo car and after a couple of months the battery went flat

The main dealer gave it a deep charge and a report saying the battery was fine. That was the 20th May 2020 and I just put it down to being an ex-demo.

Since the 20th May I have used it most days. Not long journeys but a total of 10/15 miles. We have just returned from a 14 day holiday in Devon (not in the GT86) and the battery is completely dead

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Thanks

You might need to try a few dealers but you should be able to get a battery under warranty... not sure if the newer cars do, but the older cars were specced with a tiny battery that most people swap out.

Hi, On our GT86, 2017 model we had a similar experience. The original battery was the "smaller" one and had gone flat just over a year ago when left for a week's holiday so I nursed it along and over time it was ok as we used the car most days. However, this year during lock down it completely failed again and the only way to get it going was to jump start it. As the car has a standard 5 year warranty and only 3 years old I took it to the Toyota dealer in Guildford and they changed it whilst I waited. Interestingly, they replaced the battery under warranty free of charge with a larger 65Ah one so I'm hoping this has fixed it for good.

It's a common weakness, either pester the dealer or go to another one that will change the battery under warranty for the more powerful one. Or go and buy one yourself if you don't want the hassle but personally I would pester the dealer, it's still under warranty and the battery should be up to the job.

Common issue, my colleague drives his twice a week to make sure that the battery doesn't go flat.
I'd recommend hooking up a solar charger if parked outside, even a small 18w one on the dashboard will keep the battery topped up this time of year.
