Hi,

I've purchased a car at auction in Japan and it's going to be shipped shortly.

My contact in Japan has arranged shipping and the only insurance they offer is standard Marine which ceases when the wheels hit the dock. I am concerned with theft cover at the docks and don't think my normal car insurance would cover it as I haven't taken possession (but I've asked them).

I got some other marine quotes and can get theft but again only when it's on the ship (which seems a little pointless except for the odd bits that might go missing).

If anyone has imported recently what did you do? Hopefully I'm just being paranoid about it going missing

Cheers

Kev

Depending on how old it is it'll only be small things that go missing - the flare if it's still in the car, or if the gearknob can be unskrewed that will go as per my Skyline - but my Crown it's attached more robustly and nothing went missing from that, including the Naruto figurine in the door pocket was still there laugh

It's no skyline unfortunately but has plenty of mods but can live with little things going missing just not the car itself! Haha surprised that was still there!

Hopefully there are no shipping issues with what's going on!

Cheers

There is very little you can do from the japanese side or when its on teh ship.

depending on the port in the UK, then you face a different challenge. Southampton is very well detailed on cameras etc

dont think you will find too much of an issue.

i always container ship mine, but my 32 is on a roll on / off this time. All gauges etc and anything that can be "stolen" is locked down, expensive items replaced with cheaper alternatives (oil cap/rad cap etc)

I hope it's better than it was years ago.

Cars used to turn up in a mess. I'm not convinced they were in as good condition as claimed before they left.
