200sx - easy power boosts???
Discussion
Now then,
Good cheap ways to increase the performance please, have a 98, (auto sorry it was hobsons choice) but feel that it could use a little more go, any recommendations???
Bought it form a franchised dealer and is under warranty so not loking to do anything to outrageous.....yet!
Thanks in advance

Good choice.Auto sx's go pretty good imo.
Most folk seem to start with the breathing: cone air filter,or hi-flo panel & wider bore exhaust.
After that play with the boost to wring a bit more out of the turbo.
Then suck up to your bank manager.
There are quite a few good cheap work-arounds for the 200sx-you can fit volvo intercooler, rads etc iirc.
Modding ought carry a health warning tho,its very addictive.

Thanks Tuttle,
would have prefered a manual but the condition of the auto was too good to miss, the kick down means 80 to 110 is one of my new favourite hobbies, love watch people disappear in the rearview! (on private airfields of course)
Will start looking into improvements although most of your recommendations might as well have been written in japanese!!!

There is a 200sx forum on the web - do a search. Lots of tips on there. Had mine mildly boosted to 250ish hp. Great fun. Kept the zorst and filter standard - the 200sx looks too max power with a fat pipe IMO. Plenty of extra go was achieved for not much outlay without external visual changes.

do a search on Free Boost Upgrade or FBU. By removing a small brass restricter from one of the pipes you can up the boost

You kept the exhaust and air filter standard but managed to increase the power to 250bhp? What mods did you do?
Although I know what you mean about the big bore exhausts they do free up a huge amount of power....
First mod has to be.... a boost guage. Dont even consider messing with the boost without one. I would also consider an uprated fuel pump, for £65 and an easy self fit its daft not too. Next, try filter/induction kit and exhaust type mods along with a modest increase in boost to about 12 psi and you have a nice reliable increase in power....
Get some decent brake pads too and do the obvious, put in some decent oil every 3k and change all brake/gearbox fluids etc.....
Aaaah, the other really important thing, ensure you have decent rubber, eagle F1's
Have fun... and you can always change it to a manual if you fancy at some point...

If you fit an Induction kit.. make sure you give it a cold air feed and make a box around it to shield it. They only work if thye have cold air, otherwise they just suck hot air off the engine!
doesn't seem to be a problem in my r32 though
Nor our R33 :
If you want a nice s/s cold air box,for your 200sx or any other shiney engine bay dress-up/cover type stuff, there's a
guy down Bournemouth way that makes all that kinda stuff for 200sx's-pretty good value too.I'll have a dig for his details.
