The latest Mazda CX5 2.2D ?
Discussion
Am getting a great deal on a new Mazda CX-5 2.2D Sport which is lovely to drive and seems well built. I mentioned this to a knowledgeable mate in passing who promptly asked me if I was 'bonking mad'! He told me me that Mazda diesel engines are some of the most unreliable engines made and I would be much better looking a Hyundai Tuscon. I see lots of CX-5s on the road some five or six years old. They seem to take the miles okay but I want a strong engined car to tow a five berth caravan and I don't like the Tuscon (there's a new one coming out soon too). The Mazda will be covered by warranty and my mileage is no more than 8000 miles a year. Are CX-5s all that bad?

My previous gen 2.2D CX5 had an issue at around 18 months and 50k miles were it would cut out and not restart. I believe (Sorry, it was a company car, so other than “fix it please” I wasn’t paying much attention) the inlet valves got coked up and it was engine apart for a deep clean. It was away for about a week and I believe common (ish).
I’ve still replaced it with the current 2.2D CX5 though, which I really rate.
