Why are Nissan Jukes so popular?
Discussion
Or was mine the wrong spec?
I got a petrol Juke as a hire car, and it was bloody awful. It didn’t accelerate so much as gradually gain momentum, had a rough, harsh engine (petrol), and amazingly only had 5 gears, meaning more than 4K rpm at 80mph. Cramped and cheap interior as well, honestly my partners MX5 feels like it was more roomy. Annoying orange lights as blind spot indicators, which beep if you indicate when the machine thinks I’m going to move in too soon. Massively over sensitive steering as well, and it felt like it was going to tip over any time.
Weird spec as well - big Bose speakers in the headrests, rear view camera, auto everything, but 5 speeds and no DAB?
In contrast, 2 other cars I’ve recently had were an Astra and an insignia - never liked these before, but the new versions really do seem to handle well.

There's a new one coming to market. Less grotesque in design, but still very much defined by youth.
I kind of like this new one.

Cheap, pseudo-funky, faux-SUV that rides on the wave of the success of the Qashqai - remember these are basically hatches that look like SUVs.
I see a neighbour has one as a learner car for his driving school work. Seems a bit odd choice as it has small glass areas and doesn't look that good for visibility at the rear.

I had a diesel one as a hire car. I have an Audi A3 which is quite low. I don't like anything high up but when I was behind an A3 in traffic I felt like I could run right over it, which a lot of people like. An SUV is largely a fashion statement and people will settle for any mundane car if it follows the SUV fashion.
I also think that, like the Qashqai and a lot of mundane smaller SUVs, it does well out of Motability deals.

Loads here in the North East. Generous family discounts for Nissan workers means stuff like this is very cheap. Not personally driven one but I find modern Nissans quite unsatisfying generally. Always feel quite flimsy and tinny. I do like the faux overhead camera thing though. Works very well.

Because if you want a car that doesn't look exactly like every other car in it's class there isn't a lot of choice?
OP here. But surely these people want something that was at least nice to drive? I’ve driven plenty of white goods that were actually quite nice to drive, but this had a rougher engine than a CVH.ChevronB19 said:

Cvh , pretty poor engine but nothing a set of twin 40’s and a Kent cam could sort out , ditch the hydraulic tappets jobs a good un Gassing Station | Japanese Chat | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
