import of R33 via Torque GT
Discussion
Spoke to a guy Jamie at Torque GT today. Sounded like a really helpful and genuine guy who gave me lots of time and info about how to import a Skyline R33 for me.
Told me budget of £10-11k should get me what im looking for.
Anyone had experience with them? THoughts, service, did you get the car you wanted etc etc
Thanks

I've had two cars through TorqueGT and both have been excellent. Service was great and they were always contactable with questions, after sales help was great too. Will go back again when I want another car as now I can't buy anything made anywhere but Japan

GTS looks nice tbh. How much you pay for this and when? They have sent me a few cars as examples of what i could get for my £10k budget. 2 were 3.5 grade and 1 was higer mileage grade 4 at 148k KMSMy Skyline (Grade 4, 49k miles, GTS-T, completely stock ):

thoughts?
Was 4 years ago now so I paid around £7k I think, but the cars have gotten rarer now hence the price increase, I sold it for just under TorqueGT's current guide and that was a private sale so their figure seems about right for them to do it with all the extra stuff they are doing.
GTS = n/a, GTS-t = turbo, therefore mine was a RB25DET (single turbo engine), rear wheel drive, 247bhp, 0-62 is just over 6 seconds on the books.
I loved it, I kept mine totally stock as Nissan intended (HICAS included) with most people thinking I was mad but to be honest it was just right for road driving and if you really wanted to you could get into naughty speeds with the velocity you could carry. It certainly didn't feel 25 years old and everything worked (air con, electric bits, moveable aero etc). If I could still keep it as a garage queen I would still have it, lights were awful though lol.
I wanted a dark colour which meant I was seeing cars come up once a week and was looking at anything from grade 3+. Down to you if you want to accept the higher mileage, I took mine from 80,000kms to 120+ with no problems just regular maintenance and it still felt good.

Ah man! sounds good. You done well and used it properly !
Im looking for weekend drives and Light mods, maybe Stage 1. Ideally would like it done already, but nothing toooo much. Worried that the UK ones are all going to be rust pots underneath and i dont have knowledge of how to check these cars - or any car really? lol
from what i understand grade 3.5 would be a bit of a messy body....

I am very lucky with both my cars from them, Japan really is a great place to find interesting quality cars ime.
Depends on the previous owner and how they've treated it if you bought one in the UK. Mine was garaged but used all year round so was not perfect. If you find a garage queen you might get lucky, but it's basically get down on your belly and poke around for rust as that is your biggest enemy. For Skyline's it's strut tops that are the worst for rusting, they are double-skinned iirc and rot from the inside out.
TorqueGT will give you a layer of rust prevention included when it comes in which helped my Skyline last or for extra will do a full cavity treatment too. They also do the check over in Japan too.
I've done a sort of process guide here: http://www.skyline-owners-club.com/forums/showthre... on how it works getting a car through TorqueGT. I am the same as you and wouldn't trust myself to look for all the things so they take the hard work off you and you pay them to do it. (There are some bits out of date, like when it lands in the UK not costs need to be done there now).
Anything 3.5 and above will be fine imo, the translations from the auction sheet are usually over egging the condition. For example my Crown is grade 3.5 and apparently there was an awful deep to the primer scratch on the bottom right of the bonnet - we couldn't find it, this picture is from the port in Japan:

My Skyline also listed a whole host of "scratch & dent" on pretty much every panel and that was a grade 4 but again, couldn't find them when it got here.

Can't help you in regards to R33s and costs, but having recently imported a car with Torque GT I can definitely recommend them!
I'm agonising close to picking up my Spec B Legacy from Torque GT. How long did it take for the DVLA to send the registration documents over? I'm in week 4 now... Cos18 said:

I have no personally used them for cars but have used them for parts, but from everything I've read I would not heistate to buy from them.
Even just on parts I purhcased from them they have been nothing but helpful, I think the cars they import speak for themselves too, yes its a little bit pricey for some, but your buying a car technically sight unseen from another country, thats a big risk for a start, I'd rather pay a few extra quid and get a better service/car from a trustworthy place.
If you have a search on youtube "Monky London" has a collection video of him picking up an FD2 and DC5, shows you a little about them too, might be worth a watch.
