Jap import ?(Honda crx vtec)
Discussion
Hi, can you please give me some advice, ive been offered a very nice honda crx vtec, the guy is saying that its a jap import, how can i tell? (apart from all the jap writing inside the car!) Whats the difference between the uk and the jap ones? I know that the psec are differet but does any one know what the specs are for both the uk and the jap. Cheers
Assuming its the coupé VTi version, an obvious question is what colour is it? Brit cars only came in red, white, silver and blue IIRC and you see lots of import stuff in blacks etc.
Also I'd have thought a quick look at the service book for the PDI stamp should be a reliable test.

Depending on its age.Might be illuminating to ask how many UK owners there have been, milage at import etc.Insist on seeing some docs, particularly Jap auction sheets etc(ppl will usually keep these). If it smells a bit iffy-walk away.
Here's the spec.

Im going round with my friend at the weekend so he can have a look at it for me,i dont want to go round and be the dumb cow that knows nothing about it,so i thought i'd get some home work done! i didnt think it would be so hard to get it insured, most would not insure me, they said it was a "gray import" but i finally got a quote for under £500 which i think is cheap! How do i know if hes asking to much for it? it's in mint con (well i think so)with no rust!it sounds cool with no knocking!but what else should i listen or look for?
Good purchase (he says cautiously knowing nothing about the history or mechanics of the car)!
If that's a VTi, and it probably is, you've 150-160bhp in a sub-tonne roller-skate, which with a little care and attention will handle really rather well.
If you've ever thought about track-days, that should be suitable with very little fettling (largely checking the braking system - pads, disks, fluid - and getting a service for good measure).
Post a pic when you can!

My mate has a Civic VTi - 150bhp. sounds like a mini touring car! He tracks his on a regualr basis and throughly abuses it with no problems - not bad for £500!
Great little cars they are. good choice. Im sure you will get years of trouble free motoring.
PS mine was celestial blue CRX V-tech and was not an import it was registered as new in the uk I may be wrong but I think you could get them in black as well.
But nothing wrong with imports IMO.
Only thing that was a weak point on mine was the brakes. they kept over heating
