Japfest @ C.Coombe 2005.
Discussion
Another one gone then.
We started off early in big convoy from E Gordano services,I always enjoy being part of a convoy, were behind a white R34GTT with lambo doors!(only one in Europe aparently-actually it looked OK).
Weather mostly cr*p wet start, dry by mid morning, torrential rain & v cold wind at 2.00ish.
So,no Sony tent this year:o :scratchchin: posed a bit of a prob for meeting up with PHer's.Dispite plenty of searching the only other car I spotted was MrE's glorious GT4,oh & said hi to Opieoilman too.
Imo,the trade stands were a bit 'same old' this year, tho some of the tuners were uncharacteristicly(sp?) chatty & spent most of the day watching track action.By far the most entertaining group were the Evo's & a strange little green car, whose wheels were never straight for more than 0.5 secs.
Have some good pics, will post a selection once I v'e had a shuffle thru them.

It was an okay day - very wet, and ended up being long...
Here are my movies of the driftworks SX200... the most entertainment of the day

was a good day, the driftworks car was fun. I never saw MrE's GT4 and i'm in the same celica clubs as him

Now time for a whinge and moan if i may, just to see if any other jap owners felt the same way...
Because they were so many Scooby's, our club stand (celica club uk) was pushed into the public car park behind the quarry with a few other clubs including the rotary club. I was most displeased as last year we were on the straight into the quarry.
walking through the 'world of scooby' at japfest was so monotomous and over bearing, if anything, the 4 or five owners clubs pushed to the outskirts should have been along the straight and the scooby's can then have a big field to park in and organise themselves with perhaps a formation for example.. seriously, respect to the impretza but the club is huge and it was unfair to throw so many smaller clubs out of the way behind the embankment of the quarry, if this is the way future large jap days are going to go then its plain stupid.. we see scooby's everywhere, all day on the roads, theyre as common as dandelions on a council estate, so why should other clubs be pushed out of the way?
but... lol.. in all even with the rain, a great day and turn out.

Agreed,You guys were opposite GTROC yes? They always seem to site 'scoobyland' there, there's just so many of them.If you want to take a walk up to quarry or further its like walking a gauntlet tho.
I was one of those parked in 'scoobyland'. They had exactly the same patch as last year. Did anyone complain then?
I was happy with the central location and was never to far away from the car (helpful when it rained).
It was not fun only being a few cars away from the burger van though as that made the area busy.
While sitting in the car to eat my lunch I lost count of the number of people who walked into or brushed along the side of the car, I dread to think how many scratches it has. Would you be happy to have a good location but get you p&j damaged?
The other stands were well signposted and everyone I spoke to had viewed them, but I know for some this is not enough.
Japfest is in need of a major overhaul.
The traffic and directions/marshalling to pitches etc was appauling.
The site plan must be revised (The scoobystand suffered from gatecrashers, resulting in many who had passes to park in the general parking, because of the full pitch).
There was also a severe lack of trade stands. I went there with plans to buy and came back empty handed. Many people have complained about this.
I hope things change for next year.

Heres a few to be getting on with
A friends R32 GTR block, recently arrived,BIG power Abbey mapped.Wanted to see it on the track-failed the sound test at 117db
Not too many Rex's but those there were
Beaut old Datson Z's,fast becoming the envy of tuttle
The Sterte Garages Rex(from J-Tuner feature)put in some good shows.
IMO best class to watch were the mad Evo's,consistant fast, crazy laps
Prize for best entertaining driver,IMO,has to be for this guy-who knew no fear, kept up with most of the modern 4wd stuff & lost rubber on almost every corner!

I did look for your car, any PH stickers on it?
Its really the only place that will fit all the scoobies afiak.
I thought the trade stands were a bit poor too.
I had a good,but wet,day tho
Great to see some piccies.
Tuttle, my car did not have a p/h sticker only other club stickers as mentioned. Hmm, I might have to get myself a litte p/h sticker. (updated to say I have just ordered one)
My Terzo was one of 2 on the scooby patch. Mine was in front of the other one (3 cars from the burger stand). Thanks for looking for the car anyway (needle, haystack..lol).

Thought that it was, on the whole, a bit of a dull day - track action was good but only entertaining for a while. The weather can make or break these days!
Highlights were watching
- the sterte fd and thinking they'd broken it. Turns out they've got it down to 90db as opposed to @112 before!
- the driftworks car drifting. superb.
Caught up with a few mates but thought the organisation was crap and the trade stands were poor. Although there were a few nice ladies
Nice of you to take a pic of my car tuttle (blue FD bahind the black one )

Thanks boss. I got the card and sniggered. I think I saw the white beast, and I'm now beating myself with wet rope to purge me of thoughts of Skylines.....

Dead centre of the GT4OC stand mate.
I even said hello to you near where the cars were queuing up to get noise tested for the track sessions.....
Good day. Terribly organised. I left home (20 miles away) @ 10am, and didn't get in until 12. They tried to stop me getting into the paddock until I asked exactly how much damage my car would suffer if I just drove over them.
"Not enough to stop me doing it" seemed to convince them...

That red car was me avoiding Jinksy about 2 seconds after I said to my passneger "Why won't that 200sx pull to the side to let her pass?" ... I obviously have the same Walker curse as Murry does
I managed to miss the chicane after Quarry twice with massive break fade and zero grip.
Best time was 1:51
It was very wet that early on; I never once managed to get my foot to the floor. I was amazed at how easy it was to go sideways, and how long we had out there. All in all very good.
I have some video of the Drifer man I will do a low-res encode of it and post it in the week.
Sorry to have missed everybody, I wandered around like a fool looking for the Sony tent for about 20 minutes
Matt - Never saw you, but the stand was packed like mad. We'll have to have a Wiltshire meet (if you met Sizzers on the day she lives just round the corner).
All in all very good day, and we stayed after the rain when the evos lap time went from about 1:25 to 1:53, and the scary old green Lancer had to come in. Mad driving, but handled it very well.
I think my mate has a pic of the skyline going through the wheat next to the esses - very well done - will post that up if I can get it off him.
Dude saw your laps looked smooth as....
yeah i know the FTO area was packed (plus i was knackered after only 3 hours sleep)
did see your car + spare wheel in the back...
was stood by the Red Veilside most of the day...and laughing @ Danny after spinning on the out lap
will defo meet up soon mate...

dont get me wrong, ive nothing against SIDC, its the organisors who need to sort things out, yes - same patch as last year but it extended pushing other clubs out onto a nice large flat field with the quarry embankment as a lookout, your club could have had all tjat space to itself without all those people wading through..
the main area was badly prepared, lots of other stands were central last year, the trade stands werent good, upon arriving at 8:30 - about 12 of us were sent through the wrong way and had to exit, rejoin main queue then join the proper queue further down... took ages. no-one seemed to know what was susposed to be going on.
