Any RC F 5.0 owners car to share ?
Discussion
I've had mine for about six months now and I'm really liking it. If you can, buy a 2017 onwards as it has the active suspension fitted and that makes a difference.
It's a real Jekyll and Hyde car and with the active suspension does smooth and serene long distance very well indeed. Then flick through a few of the buttons and it becomes a very good road car, the suspension tightens up and sounds good when revved to the limit.
Again the Torque Vectoring Diff is a nice option if you find a car with it.
Chris Harris did a very good youtube video on the car and I agree totally with his findings, it's not a track day car as it's a bit heavy.
Lexus are really cheap to service and the manufacturers warranty is also cheap, although I came from a V12 twin turbo AMG so anything else is cheap compared to that.
There's a good forum on Lexus Owners Club where there is a section for the F cars.

Thanks. Looking at a 2015 16 one currently. It's a real Jekyll and Hyde car and with the active suspension does smooth and serene long distance very well indeed. I've recently sold mine.
Mixed feelings, I'd recommend an extended test drive before buying.
I love Lexus as a brand, the cars feel so well made, nice interior quality.
The pro's for me :-
Reliability, great value extended warranty that includes breakdown cover for the family/any car.
Nice sound above 3,500 revs, although some is artificial in the cabin.
It's quick above 3,500 revs.
It's rare, people stare a lot.
Now down to 30k I think the depreciation will slow right down.
The seats are beautiful, the leather on the base so soft.
The bits that I didn't fall in love with :-
Totally gutless below 3,500 revs. You just expect more from a 5.0cc V8
You have to drop 3 gears for an overtake, or wait for the box to sort it's self.
The paint is soft, chips really easy.
Not as vocal as you'd expect. Nice noise on start up, pretty quiet after that. Quicksilver exhaust would be the way to go.
16mpg eventually started to annoy me, and the £550 RFL.
The infotainment system will annoy some, I really didn't bother with it.
I'm 48 and felt a bit like an old man driving it, Lexus badge I suppose.
Anyhow, please make your own mind up, but take an extended drive first. I was quite shocked at the "wait" for the power.

Excellent, I get about 22 mpg on average although on a long trip it does improve a bit. I've just bought a secondhand Quicksilver exhaust as the standard car is a bit quiet. The Carbon versions don't have ventilated seats if that is important which it is to me for long distance comfort on hot days.

Either this or a 997.2 porsche..
Lack of ooomph below 3500 rpm is a worry
I did read somewhere that a few owners had complained about low rpm pick-up and that an ECU update was required but I don't know the full facts on that issue.Either this or a 997.2 porsche..

I have noticed you do have to 'work' the engine from low speeds in standard drive mode but I've not had a noticeable problem.
In my test drive of a 2015 car I did think the suspension was a bit hard mainly due to crap roads and when I tried a car with AVS it was noticeably smoother in standard drive.
But I think most owners use Sport or Sport+ and switch it to the paddles, compared to a lot of cars I've had the gear change is very good.
The best thing is to try one and if you like it I can only say the experience gets better the longer you have the car.
I've also just ordered a set of 10 spoke Satin Bronze Vossen wheels with a nice concave design, if you go on the USA based forum you can see some of the cars with aftermarket wheels it really does suit aftermarket wheels.
I can understand the comment about lack of oomphh below 3500rpm if you have the car in Eco or Normal mode, which is why I always switch straight to Sport mode when I jump in. I actually find in those two modes the throttle response is a little unpredictable, but in Sport, Sport+ or Expert mode it is absolutely fine.
I've had mine for a couple of years now and absolutely love it, but you have to accept that it is quite a big and heavy lump. However i was quite surprised when I checked the weight against my MKIV Supra it wasn't that different.
Mine is my daily driver, but I do less than 5k miles a year and try to make sure I don't take it anywhere where i'm unsure of the parking (door dings!)
As BIRMA has done, i'd say a simple exhaust change will give it the exhaust note it should have had from the factory.
Definitely at the least test drive one
