Long time ago I had a Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato TRXX R4 rally car, it was a hoot, great wee car. I got quite into Daihatsus and back then they had a habit of producing equally extreme versions of their mundane shopping trolleys, Sirion / Storia x4, Boon X 4 for the Japanes market. Even the slightly less extreme Sirion Rally 4 (had one of those too) that made it to the UK, and of course the Charade Gtti.

Is anyone dialled into the Japanese market and know if they are still producing, or if there are more recent examples of these tiny cars with ridiculous performance? Googling just gets me lots of stuff I can't understand!

Just a random question of the sort that could get me into trouble when I import something totally daft instead of buying a new van smile

Fellow Cuore Avanzato owner here! It's not quite the glory days of the 90s with specialist kei cars, but there's still things like the Suzuki Alto Turbo RS or Works and Honda S660 kicking about in Japan.

The current Mira that descends from your Cuore is only available in a generic city car spec with a CVT auto, unfortunately. It's perfectly ok for what it is, but not very interesting. They're kind of just a "small vehicle" arm of Toyota nowadays. They make the Copen, but I don't think those are particularly special.

I'll have a look, just been surfing those japanese auction sites, a few Boon x4s and a Sirion X4 anywhere from about 8000USD if I was rich and didnt already have a front garden filled with cars, none of which are quite on the button - I'd be tempted!
