Hi was wondering if anyone could fill me in...

Thinking of buying a 2006 mazda 3 saloon. Having to opt for the 2.0L 147bhp petrol sport model as i can't insure an MPS. Trying to read up on tuning options and I'm wondering if forced induction is realistically achievable?

Could someone advise of which route of tuning would be best for this engine? Thought a supercharger would be a nice toy to have if possible...

surely a few grand on fitting a kit and insuring it appropriately will be way more effort and way more expensive.

Insuring a 2.0 fitted with an aftermarket turbocharger will cost far more than insuring an MPS!

Have you checked to see the insurance cost of a modified car?

Best route would be to just buy an mps, by the time you've had the work done and paid the insurance to modify the N/A car you will have spent more than just getting the car you want in the first place

As pointed out, Is the insurance cheaper on a heavily modified car, rather than one factory specced?

Or were you going to 'wing it'?

Be aware that they rust. Sport models with the side skirts are particularly bad, as the skirts trap water which rusts the sills.

Is there even a kit to fit a supercharger? I have my doubts that there is. Plus fitting boost may require an engine rebuild to get the CR right and strong enough internals.

I’m all for modding. But can’t see this being worth the effort. Not when the factory offer a finished article.

The Mazda 3 is essentially a ford focus which is a brill car. But the mk1 3s rust badly in most areas especially the rear arches and sills. There are many crusty ones around.
